I've never been able to remember how many megapixels each iPhone has, largely because of each one's dual camera resolution dichotomy. This could be a good time for Apple's crack marketing team to make it more obvious. They could call it the iPhone 12M to remind us it's 12 Megapixels on both sides. They could still refer to the higher end model as the "12M Pro". (Or maybe the "12ML" for Megapixel Lidar.") Everyone would ask what the M was for, and the answer would be Megapixels, on both cameras.
This sounds silly, but Apple did this once before. They called their second iPhone the iPhone 3G. They used the iPhone version number to help us remember a feature. All I'm saying is that they could do the same thing this time around.
Marketing gimmicks are just gimmicks, but some gimmicks help to sell products. The name "3G" probably helped, and I think "12M" would help too. But if I'm right, don't count me as a leaker. I'm just a guesser.
Dude, it makes no sense. Why just why?
the 4 cameras have 12MP what’s there to remind us?
Next you are going to say that Apple should call it iPhone 12MF1.8,F2.4,F2.0 at least then there’s aperture differences which is more important to know than just the MP.
You didn't disagree with my assertion that Apple has named one of its previous iPhones after one of its own features. So you understand my point, and that's all I can ask. And I promise not to come back to say "I told you so," if I turn out to be right. And we all know that the "iPhone 3G" was a temporary marketing gimmick, there was no "iPhone 4G," so I would never agree to your proposal that they should start using F-stops in their product name.
My aperture names was meant to show how (non-sense) the names 12M or 12ML are. Those are features of the phone and if you can’t remember ehhh who’s problem is that.
With the 3G iPhone, it is a different story because 3G coincide with the 3G modem been put on the iPhone.
But again thats the modem chip so is more part of the brain of the phone not a add-on like the camera details.
Specially when they are no multiple MP cameras in the iPhone on the 11 Pro so what you need to remember?
For example:
So if you got an XS Max you would have preferred the “creative” name:
Apple will announce a new Mac App Store or a unified "Apple App Store" at the event for Apple Silicon Macs.
This is what's getting the shi**y developers scared. I'm calling it now.
Why would they need a "new" Mac App Store for ASi? That makes no sense. They already announced they'll be doing cross-platform purchases.
It makes a ton of sense. How do you not see the potential?
For cross-platform (iOS, iPadOS, macOS), it's a great for consumers => buy once, run "anywhere".
Yeah, but this is up to developers to do it. If the macOS version of their software is significantly different and more complex/featured, there's just no way sometimes for it to be feasible financially.
The other way to look at the is: do you want to spend 99 cents on the iOS version, or do you want to spend $4.99 on the all-access version?

By telling me how unlikely it is that Apple will use the name "12M" you are just making my satisfaction so much better if I turn out to be right. So thanks! I may owe you! I may also need to buy you a steak dinner now if I turn out to be right, although some people will accuse me of paying you to argue with me so I look better. And I will tell them that you honestly weren't my stooge, you were indeed a sincere opponent of mine.

Steak Dinner?
that is sooo (pre) Covid-19
Instead you can Apple Pay me $150 from your “iPhone 12MEGAPIXELS Pro Max 5G” 😉 or even send me the Braided solo Loop (black) size 9.
Maybe We will listen to Tim say: We are naming our iPhone this year iPhone 12MEGAPIXELS and 12MEGAPIXELS Max 🙃

I will be honest and open with you, I take some pride in life in being able to persuade people who are treating me poorly to start treating me decently, and usually being nice to people can make that happen. Thanks for responding more nicely. Normally I don't have to pay them off, but I happen to be an honest person, in addition to being a decent person, and if I'm right (that the iPhone 12 will be called the 12M) and you want me to pay you and there's some way for me to figure out how to pay you without paying the wrong person, (this might take help from AI staff) I would indeed pay you. However you would have to do your part by admitting I was right and that you were wrong. And I don't know what city you live in, but steaks don't cost anywhere near $150 where I live.

Vic and Anthony’s Steakhouse, you are welcomed.
There will be no iPhone 12MegaPixels or iPhone 12MegaPixelsLidar so I wont have to admit anything, sorry but it makes no sense.
Try Vic and Anthony’s they are awesome while taking a few selfie’s with the 12MP front camera.

Most people would actually try to get a free meal, you are working hard to lose my offer by:
refusing to admit that I was right if indeed I turn out to be right
trying to get me to buy you the world's most expensive steak, which I never actually offered
claiming that you will be right if the iPhone is not called "iPhone 12MegaPixels" when all I said is that it may be called the "12M". Stop changing my conditions.
asking for one of the most expensive steaks, when I never said which steak. In fact, I didn't even say beefsteak, so I could get away with a fish steak.

You've obviously never worked in marketing. 99% of users have no clue what a megapixel is or why they'd care how many of those their camera has.
They could still refer to the higher end model as the "12M Pro".
That could work for one model but that's about it. iPhone 3G made more sense at the time than "12M" makes now.
Sometimes I put on my "creative hat" and try to come up with new trademark ideas. I've never been right so far. But in another thread I recently predicted that Apple would take this "Apple Silicon opportunity" (and imminent redesign) to rename its Mac lineup with "Apple" instead. AppleBook, Apple Mini, Apple Pro, etc. I don't recall anyone criticizing or complimenting that idea. So maybe that one is a good idea. We will likely find out soon.
I criticized it, specifically that you were dropping the article from the product name. Apple is the brand. Mac/MacBook is the product. Pro/mini is the model differentiator. You dropped the article, aka the product itself, from the name. This is a nonstarter.

Apple I, Apple ][ and Apple III though.
But I agree that they won't drop the Mac. Too much branch cachet in the Mac to do something like that for no real reason.

That was literally before they had any other products.

Consider this from wikipedia:- Steaks are often cut from grazing animals other than cattle, including bison, camel, goat, horse, kangaroo,[2][3] sheep, ostrich, pigs, reindeer, turkey, deer, and zebu, as well as various types of fish, especially salmon and large fish such as swordfish, shark, and marlin. For some meats, such as pork, lamb and mutton, chevon, and veal, these cuts are often referred to as chops. Some cured meat, such as gammon, is commonly served as steak. ... Grilled portobello mushroom may be called mushroom steak, and similarly for other vegetarian dishes.[4] ... Grilled fruits such as watermelon have been used as vegetarian steak alternatives.
So if you continue to try to put words in my mouth, I may only offer you a grilled watermelon steak for your own mouth.Potential for what?
