I just received my 2020 iMac and while I love everything about it, the one thing that just irks me is Apple's decision to limit it to two TB3 ports. It should have four.
I have dual monitors, and two TB2 drives RAID towers. Which means for now, I can't plug in any USBc devices. WTF Apple?
Of course you *can*. Just get USB-A to C cables or adapters if you need them.
You need to go back to sleep.
If you say so. Just saying you *can* plug those devices with the correct cable. Ignore that fact if you want.

No, not "adapters"! We can't possibly use "adapters"! That would ruin the entire user experience...
USB-A to USB-B cables on millions of devices (printers, scanners, audio interfaces, etc) never stopped people from using them.
Odd how it’s ok that you have to tote adapters around with MBPs but if you need one for a permanent installation like an imac it’s not. 🤔 Either way, you’re totally right - a $10 adapter will fix the problem in seconds.
Not odd at all. If you have “all” ports on a portable device you easily end up with double digit number of ports; and as things are now in late 2020 (which absolutely is different from what I thought not long ago) a single, very flexible, type of port makes a lot of sense. (Especially when those ports also are in iPads, and hopefully future iPhones.)
But… on a fixed installation a bunch of constantly used adapters creates the most ridiculous cases of a mess; or you end up having to build cable boxes (and perhaps get a bunch of extender cables).

Ok. So if the iMac had more USB-C ports you’d have a USB-C to USB-C cable for each USB-C device.
Alternatively, with only USB-A ports for USB-C devices you can have a USB-A to USB-C cable for each device.
Same number of cables. Where’s this ridiculous mess you’re referring to?
Needless to say I agree still in principle. Apple switched MB and then MBP to all USB-C in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Then iPad and MBA more recently. It’s been 5 years. Why they’re not all in on USB-C across the whole range by now is a bit baffling to me.
Some here will argue “OMG no we don’t want to give up our old ports” and yeah whatever. But it’s not usually Apple’s style to have this mix-mash like this.
If they’d gone all out USB-C-only across the board sooner rather than later the industry would catch up quicker than it has been.
