Apple resurrects MagSafe branding for line of iPhone 12 accessories

I use the Scosche magnetic mount in car and have the steel plate attached to the inside of the iPhone case. Great setup, stealthy (you don't see the plate inside the case) and the Scosche magnetic mount keeps the iPhone in place as I drive. But the steel plate keeps my iPhone from charging when placed on a wireless charger.

Any idea if the new MagSafe cases would work with the Scosche mounts (and I could lose the steel plate)? Or maybe Belkin or Scosche or others plan to create a magnetic mount for the car that locks onto the iPhone MagSafe case?
I came into this thread with exactly the same question... I LOVE the Scoshe Magnetic mounts in my cars... so easy to flip the phone onto them and it stays put!... On my iPhoneX, I found if I used the smaller plate and put it against the bottom of my case, I could still use a wireless charger :) .... but it would be nice to have the phone work with the mount without gluing that plate to it!
I don't think we'll know for sure until the phone is actually in someone's hand that can test it... I don't see Apple answering our question.

But, as you alluded,  I'm certain someone else (if not Scoshe) will make a vehicle mount that will work with it... just a matter of time.

Good that they added some nice wireless charging options

But really shitty that they are making users pay for a USB-C to Lightening cable that is worthless to most people because they have nothing to plug it into because Apple chose to not include the adapter with their $1,000 phone.

So, we are to use our old one?   Nope!
Not only are almost all Apple wall chargers obsolete 5W's that Apple should have upgraded to 20 Watt years ago but they are almost all USB-A

So, Apple is forcing users to pay for a cable they can't use or to buy a $20 USB-C charger.
That is chintzimess worthy of K-Mart and really demeans Apple's reputation for "Just Works".   It doesn't 'just work'.   You have to buy a separate charger to make it work!

This is a bad sign!   A sign of a company headed in the wrong direction.   The direction of being more worried about its bottom line than its product and reputation.

Many customers will consider this a shake down because, well, it is a shakedown.

lol - who doesn’t have multiple ways to charge things at this point?  I have a drawer full of chargers at this point - it was well past time for them to stop throwing the charger and stupid ear buds in every box - the amount of e-waste is beyond ridiculous, especially at Apple’s volume.

They could have deflected most of the criticism if they just included a coupon you could redeem for a charger if you still needed one; that they didn’t do something like that is a bit disappointing.

As I said, Apple should have upgraded their charger along with their fast charging phones years ago.   Instead, this year, they stopped including them at all -- leaving their customers with obsolete 5W chargers that won't even work at all with the USB-C cord they did include.

That's just cheap.  It's not the Apple that I know.

I like your idea of a coupon so those who don't want a charger don't get one.   But, nearly everybody needs to upgrade from those old 5W things so nearly everybody would have simply redeemed the coupon.
