Customers in line for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max as first preorders arrive

Early adopters in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia are taking receipt of launch day iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max orders, while customers begin to line up to buy the same devices.

Apple fans are beginning to line up outside of flagship Apple Stores as sales of iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Max commence. In many areas, the turnout is not as large as Apple's iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro launch in October, but lines are forming nonetheless due to coronavirus safety measures.

As usual, buyers are posting photos of the new handsets to Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets. Users are also posting photos of launch day scenes at Apple Store locations in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong:

The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max are slated to launch globally on Friday. Due to pandemic concerns, Apple is limiting the number of customers allowed in its stores and has facilitated no-contact deliveries in many regions. In the U.S. and Europe, the company has installed bank teller-like "express" experiences at some stores to limit lines and encourage social distancing.

Update: As it does with every major launch, Apple early Friday issued a press release showcasing photographs of the first customers to get their hands on iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max at Apple Sydney.

    Looks like the constraints are not really that bad. I have 2 Pro Maxs on pre-order and I am getting both of them today.

    The mini looks very interesting,  could be great replacement for iPhone 8 Plus??   The screen area is close it appears and much smaller phone.  Let’s hope having magnets close to the body for long periods is okay.  Have been trying to read up on this.  But it appears the mini could be a huge hit.

    We received via FedEx both the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max on Friday.  Even though we ordered through AT&T we still had to contact them to activate the new iPhones - 50 minute wait on the line before speaking with a real person. I’m guessing that a lot of people were calling in for the same reason.  We discovered later that activation could be done online, but oh well.  Setup and data transfer were smooth and both iPhones were fully functional before evening end.

    UPS guy delivered late afternoon Friday. Said "You guys are a big Apple family!" He delivered our Apple Watch 6s beginning of October. We received one iPhone 12 Pro Max in Graphite (his), one in Pacific Blue (mine). Since I have a ton of photos and files on my account, took a bit longer to transfer data. No issues and I'm glad we waited for the Pro Max after initially believing that it would be too large. Totally not the case.
