I guess I missed the ads Facebook took out that said “We steal your personal data against your will and make huge profits from it.” it must’ve been with the one that said, “We influence public opinion in ways you can’t even imagine.”
Remember: If you are not paying for a product, YOU are the product.

That's a concept that exists on another plane of reality for most people. And only comes crashing down on them when they're suddenly victimized by it.
"FREE" has an almost hypnotizing affect on a lot of people; dropping them into a state of irrational thinking and behavior.
I run a small online business and 90% of my customers come from running fb ads and the rest are people who were referred by my customers that came from fb ads. BIg companies like Apple and Microsoft don't need targeted advertising... They're already giants in their industries. Small businesses like mine depend on these targeted advertising because that's literally the only way we can market ourselves. We don't have a storefront so we don't have the benefit of people just happneing upon our store. We don't have the budget to run a large scale marketing campaign. Targeted advertising is cheap, because it only targets our ads to the relevant people, as well as effective. Facebook is right — this will be devastating for me and all of the small business owners throughout the world.

OK let's go through this again. Targeted ads don't work They either are wildly off the mark, or thay aren't and come across as creepy. Practically nobody clicks through regular ads, and the conversion rate of these full screen pop up targeted ads is even worse.

I don’t want you knowing things about me. I don’t like or even respect the business model you have built. And I certainly don’t want Facebook knowing in order to monetise me and my family for you. As it is I don’t even have my own Facebook account but it still knows stuff about me because my wife does. And your comment, new poster, smells like astroturf.

It sounds like this is an argument that FB has a monopoly on how small businesses reach their customers, and that this monopoly is based on the unethical harvesting of private data without informed consent or control.
Let me just reassure you -- it is possible to communicate with other human beings without using FB. Small businesses existed prior to the existence of FB. And if Apple succeeds in stopping the unethical harvesting of private data by FB, smart small business owners will figure out a new way to reach their customers. One uplifting aspect of the constraints placed on small business by COVID has been the innovation that smart business owners have shown. Some people complain, others innovate.
Zuckerberg said: "We're standing up to Apple for small businesses everywhere", but he means: "We're standing up to Apple for TO BE ABLE TO COLLECT THE MONEY OF THE small businesses everywhere AND TO BE ABLE TO COLLECT THE USERS’S PERSONAL DATA EVERYWHERE ".

Told an iKnockoff moron this yesterday. He held Apple to a different standard than every other company in the world. Tried to give Samsung credit for Apple's screen technology because Samsung Display has a manufacturing plant. Yet he said a baker doesn't have to own a farm lol.
Ignore that @junor account; it's just some amateurish attempt to fake some sort of grassroots movement about how preventing big business from harvesting people's data is somehow all about the small businesses.
Someone out there is making money out of fake posts to try to influence the discourse in public forums. We've seen that here ever since some of these bigger players started to try to go after Apple.

Better get a storefront and a better marketing strategy then. Your business being inconvenienced is not a justification for your customers' privacy being comprimised.
