Apple TV+ sees record weekend on 'Palmer' release, 'CODA' acquisition

Apple TV+ reported that the last weekend of January ranked as its most-watched, largely driven by the release of "Palmer" and other recent content.

The premiere of the Justin Timberlake vehicle brought in record-breaking viewership for the Apple streaming platform, according to Deadline. Although Apple doesn't disclose statistics, it said that "Palmer" was its third-biggest launch and second biggest film.

"Palmer" follows the story of a former college football player named Eddie Palme, played by Timberlake, who returns to his hometown to get his life back together after a stint in prison. There, he faces a surprising challenge when he finds himself in charge of a young boy abandoned by his mother.

Viewership reportedly spiked 33% over the weekend of Jan. 30 and Jan. 31. Along with "Palmer," streams ticked up because of the second seasons of "Servant" and "Dickinson," as well as the release of "Losing Alice."

Apple TV+ was also in the news over the weekend for acquiring acclaimed Sundance film "CODA" in a $25 million deal on Jan. 30.

    We enjoyed our weekly installments -- Servant and Losing Alice. The latter even had nudity; another nail in the coffin of "But Apple will force rated-G content!" trope.

    We actually enjoyed episode 3 of "Servant".  It had some humor in it that I hadn't expected but really welcomed.  Re: "Jesus Crust".  LOL.

    That nail was in the coffin at launch.  Most of the big at-launch shows included not-safe-for-network-TV sex scenes.

    As I recall it-was-masturbation-as-a-religious-experience-while-listening-to-a-lou-reed-record so I don’t think that coffin was nailed at all.
