According to the automaker, the Apple wearable will help new Kia EV6 owners take advantage of the Kia Connect services bundled with each car. If a buyer already has an Apple Watch, they can opt for an at-home EV charger or EV charging credits that can be used at a national charging network, CNET reported Thursday.
Buyers of an EV6 First Edition can get the special offer with a $100 refundable deposit.
When paired with an Apple Watch, Kia EV6 owners will be able to use the Kia Connect app to remotely start or stop charging on their vehicle, see battery usage, check the charging status, and more.
The EV6 First Edition also sports the features available in the standard trim, along with upgrades like an augmented reality heads-up display, remote Smart Park functionality, and three exclusive color combinations.
Kia's latest electric vehicle also packs a 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery with a dual-motor AWD drivetrain.
The EV6 is also the first Kia vehicle to be built on the Hyundai E-GMP platform. Earlier in 2021, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the "Apple Car" would be based on the platform. However, that was during negotiations between Kia and Apple, which have since fizzled out.
Reservations for the Kia EV6 First Edition start on June 3. The automaker expects to deliver the first models during the first quarter of 2022.

This reminds me to check if the MyChevrolet watch app has been improved in the last update. It kept signing out on me previously making it kind of useless!
Battery tech despite the constant promises is not really evolving enough, Current battery tech requires unique materials the are hard to come by to make them and has its own environmental impact. Charging for a reasonable range takes to long, compared to 2-3 minutes at a gas pump, Rapid Chargers are not inexpensive to install...
Now expand this idea out to 100's of millions of cars, in comparison to perhaps the One (1) million estimated EV's now. I doubt they could make that many batteries at any reasonable cost to support that.. EV's generally are more expensive then the average gas powered car, as are the Hybrids.. Many people cannot afford these cars under any circumstances.. Then there is the electric grid itself, it probably could not support anywhere near adding millions more EV's for charging..
So I wonder when they'll finally figure out that EV's really aren't going to work.. I think Hydrogen based cars would be a better way to go for the long run.
