Apple Watch Series 4 and later now has its ECG feature enabled in Australia

More than two years after it was introduced to the States in the Apple Watch Series 4, customers in Australia are now able to use Apple's ECG feature.

"Apple Watch has helped so many people around the world, and we are humbled that it has become such an important part of our customers' lives," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer, in a statement. "With the release of these heart features [in Australia], Apple Watch takes the next step in empowering people with more information about their health."

"Data collected by Apple Watch could be used to help diagnose atrial fibrillation early," said Bill Stavreski, General Manager for Heart Health and Research at the Australian Heart Foundation, in the statement.

"While AFib often leads to a poorer quality of life, many people have no symptoms or they might ignore occasional symptoms," he continued. "This means the problem might not be found until serious consequences, such as a stroke, occur, so early diagnosis can lead to a better outcome."

Apple says that the feature has been enabled in Australia "with the latest iOS and watchOS software updates." It requires the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, or Apple Watch Series 6. ECG is not available on either the Apple Watch Series 3, or Apple Watch SE, both of which Apple currently sells.

Is there any way to update the article to reflect which countries now support ECG, like what you used to do with countries and banks adding ApplePay support?  Is Australia the 5th country or the 50th to support the ECG app?

Yes, this arrived in Watch OS 7.4 and was HUGE news for Apple Watch-owning Aussies at the time.

What’s new now except for some statements from people quoted?

can we please get an answer on why this is being reported as new news when this was reported by AI in April 20, 2021?

That is a helpful link.  Thank you for sharing.  Interestingly they haven’t updated it to reflect ECG support in Australia yet. 🤣

I first used the ECG on April 29th, not long after release.
