Apple's App Store getting In-App Events, App Product Page, and more
At the 2021 WWDC, Apple unveiled new features for the App Stores, called the App Product Page and In-App Events intended to help discovery, and boost interactivity.
Near the end of its keynote on June 7, Apple turned specifically to what it's doing for developers. Featured discussed included some new features for the App Store, starting with App Product Pages.
"This year, you'll be able to create multiple custom product pages to showcase different features of your app for different users," Ann Thai, Apple's director of App Store Product Marketing, said during the WWDC keynote. "You can also try out different screenshots, videos, and even app icons to figure out what users like most."
Thai added that it's also important to "showcase the things that are happening inside your apps." Citing Pokemon Go events and movie premieres, Thai touted "new ways to discover amazing events like these." Those are what Apple is calling In-App Events.
"With In-App Events, the dynamic content and experiences within apps will be front and center on the App Store," she said. "This is huge for developers. In-App Events can be surfaced throughout the store to millions of users, whether they're brand new to the app or they use them every day."
The In-App Events can also be featured on the app's product page, where users can sign up to be notified about such events. Apple's "expert editors," Thai said, will curate the biggest events.
The App Store, Thai said, now boasts 600 million weekly visitors, and has paid over $230 billion to developers since the launch of the App Store.
