The partnership between Apple News and New York Magazine was revealed in a WWD interview with editor David Haskell. When asked about whether Apple News helps the publication focus on subscriptions, Haskell offered the following comment.

"We're working with Apple right now on a journalism project together and that has unlocked some opportunities for us," Haskell said in the interview. "It seems to be fairly consistent with the larger strategy of thinking about this place as a subscription business, but I don't think Apple News has been a game changer for us."

No other details about the project were included in the interview.

The Apple News platform has collaborated with media outlets before. The Wall Street Journal, one of the initial launch partners for Apple News+, is still working with the company on an editorial strategy for the platform.

While some publications have stuck by Apple News, others have severed ties with the platform. The New York Times, for example pulled out of Apple News, citing a plan to connect more directly with its audience and fund quality journalism.

The rest of the interview with Haskell focuses on non-Apple topics, including the editor's views on newsletters, the recent acquisition of New York Magazine by Vox Media, and how Haskell ended up in journalism.
