Verizon expands rollout of in-home 5G and LTE internet services

Verizon has announced an expanded rollout of its LTE and 5G home internet service alongside a new upgradable home router.

"With the expansion of LTE Home Internet and 5G Home Internet to more and more customers across the country, the options for fast, reliable internet have never been better. We continue to lead the industry by expanding broadband options for our customers. And with the new Verizon Internet Gateway device, our customers will have a head start to take advantage of a new era of experiences in the comfort of their home," said Verizon CRO Frank Boulben.

Verizon has slowly been rolling out in-home 5G internet services to more cities and has now added an additional seven regions, which can be seen below.

• Akron, OH


• Ann Arbor, MI


• Columbia, SC


• Durham, NC


• Fresno, CA


• Spokane, WA


• St. Petersburg, FL

Customers in the regions above are now eligible to sign up for Verizon's service. Users can expect download speeds up to 1 Gbps, with an average of 300 Mbps, using the mmWave network.

This brings Verizon to a total of 47 markets for its in-home 5G service.

Additionally, Verizon is also expanding its 4G LTE service. New urban, suburban, and rural America markets are available with typical download speeds of 25 Mbps and peak speeds of 50 Mbps.

To pair with this expanded service, the company is introducing a new Verizon Internet Gateway router that supports 4G but will be the first to support Verizon's 5G C-band spectrum via a firmware update. When the C-band 5G spectrum is available at your home, the router will be ready to support it.

Wireless is a scam. This is the same company that pocketed federal funds intended for national fiber rollout, and then stopped doing fiber, sold off smaller physical networks, and spent the money on its wireless business. This company thinks it’s in the business of selling contracts, not providing service.

Nobody ever said that Verizon had anything but its own interests at heart.

But, that does not mean that home wireless is a scam.   Just as we have seen over the previous decade or so, there are fewer and fewer wires strung throughout homes.  And, the same will be seen in the coming decades outside of homes and businesses.
