You have a choice. Its name is Android.

It's all political theater EU style. it's not going to happen nor should it despite what some of you think.

No mention that AEI is a rightward corporate puppet of a think tank. Of course they'll side with corporate interests. This isn't about protecting consumers. It's about protecting profits by any means necessary.
Fine, then who has consumer’s interests? Probably nobody.
we, have our own interest.  WE, THE PEOPLE.  REMENBER?

Total bunk. I bet there were no actual "techies" in this "think tank". If there were they would all be snickering and making tachikoma jokes.
All Apple needs to do to satisfy the desire of some users to sideload is to allow them to jail break their iPhones with an easy to use UI. When they do this, they lose access to iCloud and other high security features. They gain access to load any apps they want. They are told in no uncertain terms that they are on their own and entirely responsible for the software they use, you know, like on any other computer since the dawn of personal computing.
Stop acting like this is a "hard computer science problem". This is an easy problem to solve. Start worrying about why your iCloud data is not encrypted on Apple's servers and what will happen to anything stored there whether you know it is nor not.

While I fully agree that Apple and Google wield too much power shown in their willingness and ability to silence voices they don’t like, force users into patterns that benefit these companies, and exert too much control over the tools we want to use (even denying some entirely), the content we want to consume, and how we do it…

I don’t agree with the “solution.”

Too disruptive, harmful to the companies and users, and just unfair in terms of stripping financial reward for App Store providers.

The bill as it is today is a device and account security nightmare waiting to happen.
