Based in the Changsha IFS shopping mall, Saturday's opening of the Apple Store was an attraction that drew a massive number of people, all wanting to visit the retail establishment. Despite some social distancing measures to fight COVID-19 remaining in place, that didn't deter hundreds of customers from turning up.

Images shared to Weibo and first reported by iMore show rows of people queued up behind multiple rows of barriers, patiently waiting for admittance to the store. At the entrance was store employees, lined up to welcome the first groups in through the doors.

Apple previewed the outlet ahead of its release, showing off the double-height facade with a new gradient frit and mirrored coating. Tall glass panels produced in Tianjin shift from translucent to opaque as the day progresses.

Inside, a freestanding video wall will be used to present Today at Apple sessions, flanked by wooden display tables holding Apple products.

"We are thrilled to be opening in Changsha, a community filled with creativity and profound cultural heritage," said Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's senior vice president of Retail + People. "So many of our team members already call Hunan province home, and they are ready to welcome and support their neighborhood at Apple Changsha."

Would be more exciting to see Apple pull out of China entirely and show folks how things are done.

What's the problem with dependence on China? No one is able to build Apple devices better?

You think this anti-China stuff is just another example of White Supremacy?

Lazy Americans who don't or can't do the job, and CEOs and investors who'd prefer big paychecks rather than investment in capacity (education, etc).

Sure we need more programmers doing video games, and people playing them.

Apple cannot afford to pull out of China entirely. Without China Apple is doomed.

No. This anti-China stuff is not an example of White Supremacy. China is a Dictatorship and the Government of China is bad for the Chinese people. Plus China is trying to claim the entire South China Sea as their property and trying to control what ships can or cannot pass through. Plus they may try to capture Taiwan, in which case it may be necessary to go to war with China in order to defend Taiwan.

This is misinformation and propaganda from Taiwan. Taiwan is trying to attract business over mainland China by demonizing China.

How can you say this is misinformation and propaganda from Taiwan? Everyone saw what happed to Hong Kong. They were supposed to be completely autonomous for 50 years and China is already in complete control 30 years early.

Remember that assemblers are not really smart or engineers, robots can do that. The designing is really the heart of Apple, manufacturing can be done anywhere in the world and the only differences are the labor costs so that Apple can maximize their profits….greed? Maybe maybe not, it’s the returns on investors. But as China becomes richer, the cost of labors will go up too and that’s why Apple are diverting their assembly partners plus you add the politics of doing business is a balancing act.

Based on this photo, there is one thing that is certain after all these years since the beginning of the iPhone in 2007.

All of Apple's competitors, the ones that continuously make fun of Apple's loyal fan base over the years - you know who you are - would kill to have this kind of customer base.

And all the apple-haters making fun of these people secretly wish that they clumsy Android-phone had this kind of attention.

Weird. Has nothing to do with ethnicity or race. Funny how people jump to that on reflex. Has everything to do with human rights and evil government. Apple talks about human rights but they dont make a stand where it counts. China says jump and they ask how high.

Ummm you know knockoff Apple products exist right?

Why would Apple just hand over a large chunk of Apple product marketshare to Xiaomi and Huawei etc?

Neither does Apple "take a stand" against human rights abuses by the U.S. and its government.

It just kills us to see what is happening in Hong Kong.  The social fabric of the most amazing city in the world is systematically being unraveled by corrupt mainland China politicians, aided and abetted by locals who stand to gain financially.  You used to feel safe at night walking around with lots of cash and jewelry.  Crime was low, the police were trustworthy and you could always ask for help when needed.  Those things are no longer true.

Many of those who stayed and did not join the exodus of “yacht people” are now wishing they had left long ago.  They stayed because they loved their once proud city.  We wish our Hong Kong friends well in these troubling times and hope they get through them unscathed and out of harms way.

So, yea.  I’m kind of looking at Apple.  Actions speak louder than words.

You could say the same about pretty much any U.S. city.  Kids could even go to school without fear of being shot.
Why are you not looking at Apple and demanding it take action?
