Amazon updates Kindle Paperwhite lineup with USB-C
The popular Kindle Paperwhite eBook reader starts at $140 and is now available in three models -- standard, signature, and kid.
Kindle Paperwhite has been updated with USB-C, faster processor
The Kindle Paperwhite has been upgraded to USB-C and up to 32GB of storage. The most expensive Signature Edition even has an auto-brightness sensor and Qi wireless charging.
The three models -- standard, signature, and kid -- all have the same 6.8-inch display and IPX8 water resistance. The move to USB-C is also a big win for consumers because the Kindle was likely one of the stragglers holding on to micro USB.
According to ArsTechnica, the new Kindle Paperwhite models get a faster processor too. This translates to about a 20% faster page turn than older models.
The standard model comes with 8GB of storage and ads by default for $140. Customers can upgrade to 32GB of storage or an ad-free model as well.
The kids model comes with a case, is ad-free, and includes a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ for $160. It has the same features as the standard model.
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has 32GB of storage, includes an auto-brightness sensor and Qi wireless charging. The most significant difference between this $190 model and the $250 Kindle Oasis is the Oasis has physical buttons and a more streamlined design.
Customers can pre-order the new Kindle Paperwhite models with first shipments going out October 27.
