Windows-centric device management firm PDQ is shifting into the realm of Apple hardware, by acquiring the macOS and iOS device management company SimpleMDM.

The acquisition, announced on October 6, has IT asset management software producer PDQ buying SimpleMDM, an Apple-based counterpart, for an undisclosed sum. The deal effectively expands PDQ's enterprise reach into macOS and iOS, increasing the options available to customers of its system administration tools.

While PDQ offers Windows software deployment and inventory reporting to more than 19,000 organizations, SimpleMDM provides a cloud interface for managing Apple devices and applications. At the same time as increasing its reach from Windows to the Apple ecosystem, the acquisition also adds more than 3,000 customers to PDQ's books.

PDQ's current list of clients includes quite a few major companies, including 3M, BMW, Coca-Cola, HBO, NASA, and the University of Utah. SimpleMDM's client list features Discovery, Deloitte, FedEx, Rosetta Stone, RipCurl, Simplehuman, and Weyerhaeuser, among others.

"PDQ is aggressively looking for ways to help IT professionals focus their time and energy where it's needed most," said PDQ CEO Dan Cook. "The powerful combination of PDQ and SimpleMDM will reinforce our strategy of helping sysadmins effectively keep all types of devices health and up to date."
