MacBook Pro refresh could reuse the iPhone's notch in the display

A visible notch is terrible for gaming or anything that requires full screen. Unless they can automatically switch to a full top black bar when macOS isn’t visible, I would not want this. I’d prefer a full width bezel.

Terrible is an overreaction.  Very few games use that part of the screen for important UI.

It’s rather hilarious to see the spasms induced by an unfounded rumor that makes no sense and plays into a source of derision for Apple detractors.

I’d hate to see what would happen if a rumor arose about Apple returning to a variation of the butterfly keyboard. But this time they’ll be calling it the “moth” keyboard, and more specifically the “Mothra” keyboard.

In a few hours we’ll all be laughing at these rumors.

    I hope.

This has to be one of the dumbest rumors I've seen in a long time.
However even if true, as others point out it will be in the menu bar.  Will likely not bother me since I'm probably going with the 16" this time - but would suck for the smaller units.  Menu bar space can easily become contested on smaller displays.

Would suck for everyone for any content in full screen mode, though.  The new screens are wider - 16:9 content would have dead space on the sides, not the top.

No way I see Apple shaving of 1/4" of a bezel to have a notch in full screen video playback.  They've done a lot of stupid/questionable crap recently, but this is a bridge to far even for them.

Who cares? It isn't like video is going to be shown with a notch in it. All you're going to have is those top icons for WIFI, bluetooth, menus, etc. Looking at my top bar, there is a big gap with plenty of room for the notch. This will add a little more screen space, people will complain, and people actually using the computers will end up ignoring the notch is actually there. Doom will be predicted and Apple will sell millions of computers.

I was hoping this was a BS rumor, that surely they couldn’t be THAT stupid.

Those crazy bastards, they went full stupid on that, while otherwise improving everything else to be more practical.

    Never go Full Stupid.

I guess all the crazy performance improvements otherwise will help most hold their nose over the notch stupidity and buy it, because at least for now, I suspect you can’t find an Intel/AMD-based notebook that compares for battery life and performance.

Just here to state I was wrong, there was a notch, etc. For the record.
