Apple issues macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 update with security fixes
While all of the focus is on macOS Monterey, Apple has also issued an update for the operating system it replaces, with macOS Big Sur brought up to version 11.6.1.
Issued on Tuesday, the macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 update can be downloaded to Macs running the previous release of the operating system. The update is intended for those who intend to stay on macOS Big Sur for a while longer, such as for software compatibility reasons.
The update is small, but it is recommended to all continuing macOS Big Sur users to install it onto their systems, as Apple states it "improves the security of macOS."
To install the update, users must access System preferences then select Software Update. The macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 update itself is under a section marked "Other updates are available," and is accesible by clicking "More Info."
The update is 2.56GB in size, making it much smaller than the more prominent 12.13GB macOS Monterey update. Apple released macOS Monterey on Monday.
