Apple in talks to broadcast MLB games next season

According to a new report, Apple may be preparing to offer Major League Baseball as part of its streaming services.

Sports fans may soon have a new place to watch Major League Baseball -- on Apple TV+.

According to a report from the New York Post, Apple is in "serious talks" to carry Major League Baseball games as soon as next season.

The MLB has been attempting to sell weekday national games, as ESPN has relinquished the broadcasting rights of Monday and Wednesday games.

Sports broadcasts would likely fall under Apple TV+, though it could mark the first add-on package to the service. Other services, such as Disney+, allow users to bundle ESPN and Hulu alongside their Disney+ subscription.

As The Post points out, it's not clear whether or not Apple would have exclusive rights or if regional sports networks would be allowed to broadcast in their areas.

This isn't the first time it's been reported that the Cupertino-based tech giant has had its eye on live sports. In December 2019, it had been rumored that Apple had met with Pac-12 and MGM to acquire content to bolster Apple TV+.
