I've been 100% all-in with Apple for 20+ years, but I must admit I'm getting tempted to consider Microsoft's Game Pass. And that might mean I'll have to buy either an Xbox or a Windows OS. So if someone like me is thinking of moving away from Apple, that can't be a good sign for Apple's future.
The latest variation of the “Apple is doomed” narrative. Well, friend, I’ve been 100% all-in with Apple for FORTY years (1982) and have no intention of jumping ship. So do I cancel out your temptation to leave the platform?

I’m all in on Apple too, and I’m also tempted by Game Pass. But until Apple offers its own AAA games, I don’t think either of us has to worry that buying an Xbox means we are moving away from Apple. Like Davidw said above, if it’s just for casual gaming, then just buy the console and keep using your Apple gear the same way you already are.

4.7% revenue beat and an 11.6% earning beat and the stock is just up 2.5% (at the moment) in after hours. This is while still being down more than 12% from all time highs less than a month ago.
I agree with the sentiments.
Apple has no competition. Microsoft makes some of the world’s worst software and hardware.
Honestly, Apple should be at $500 per share and Microsoft should be out of business.
Ignorance is bliss on Microsoft. Their hardware is non-issue, gaming is great, windows and office: crap, but lots of lock-in keep it going, Azure: an up and coming competitor to AWS and others. They have products and generate a tremendous amount of revenue, however other than gaming they leverage the lock-in and fear of change.

We have come a long way from the dark days when the company producing the most beautiful and "insanely great" products looked like going bust and that awful, naff company that had never produced anything of quality looked like it was going to claim global domination. I am glad to have lived long enough to see some sort of 'business justice' done. I would still like to live longer to see MS bankrupted and found guilty of crimes to good taste and usability. It is hard to detest a company but having worked in IT, I make an exception for them.

Laughable quote if you were on a Mac for gaming in the first place.
This huge tech and AAPL sell-off was the result of the big boys of Wall Street thinking they know more than us individual shareholders and granted their concerns about financial tightening and inflation fears but AAPL once again shows us that people love their Apple products and services and they will be the last thing people stop spending money on. It is impossible to function without a smart phone in today’s society and it is mire important than your physical keys and wallet.
Every time AAPL has a huge downward correction it is usually due to their over reaction, truly the so-called financial wizards have no clothes. I still relish the times my financial advisors looked at me like I had a third eye when I told them AAPL was my primary personal holding and told me AAPL was a bad choice because it was a single product company (iPhone) and had no service lines.
Somehow Exxon never had the same accusation leveled at it, etc etc.
Honestly, I think some of it is this weird irrational “Apple-hatred” that manifests itself as trolling on this site.

----- What does Microsoft have anything at all to do with Apple’s quarterly earnings? Apple and Microsoft have both moved far beyond the Mac vs PC television commercial era. Both companies are doing exceptionally well for their shareholders. They are the top two most valuable companies in the world. Why on earth should a company that is nipping on Apple’s heels, and sometimes surpassing them, be out of business? That’s honestly a ridiculous and nonsensical statement. Take a peek at Microsoft’s latest blowout quarterly earnings. Despite the claims of Windows being on death’s doorstep, its OEM licensing revenue was up 25%.
Zero sum game thinking no longer applies to Apple vs Microsoft. In fact it hasn’t applied since long before Ballmer's departure, despite Ballmer trying to keep that torch burning long beyond it having fuel to sustain the illusion. Fortunately for Microsoft’s current stakeholders, Satya Nadella harbors no such silliness and has moved Microsoft in a direction that allows Microsoft to control its own destiny, just like Steve Jobs and Tim Cook have done for Apple.

Microsoft makes third-rate software, hardware, and commodity services like Azure-hosting-etc. Oh, and gaming. Wow.
Apple make humanity-changing everything. Again and again.
Yet somehow Microsoft is put in the same league as Apple. It shouldn't be.
Apple has no competition. Microsoft certainly isn't competition for Apple.
That's why AAPL should be at $500 per share and MSFT should be, well, nowhere.

Laughable quote if you were on a Mac for gaming in the first place.
Nobody every bought a Mac for gaming, but the state of gaming was generally good enough for most. Those that were heavily into gaming might have bought a custom PC gaming rig just for fun. Previously, we also had the option to boot Intel Macs into Windows and run native Windows games. Most didn't do that, but it was at least an option.
Move forward to today. Apple is doing a great job with Apple Silicon based devices. Sales of Macs are at an all time high. Macs along brought in over $10 Billion this quarter. I can remember when Apple (the entire company) had half that revenue for the entire year. Yet, the state of gaming on the Mac now is at an all time low. We used to have companies like Macsoft and Aspyr, etc. that were dedicated to porting A-list games to the Mac. We don't have that anymore. Worse, Apple actually thinks it's addressing the gaming market with Apple Arcade which is mostly garbage indie titles for very casual gamers.
To your point, the Mac platform was never great for gamers, but it was at least tenable for many that were interested in games as a secondary function for their machine. Apple has a gaming problem on the Mac platform that needs to be addressed.
Apple has no competition. Microsoft makes some of the world’s worst software and hardware.
Honestly, Apple should be at $500 per share and Microsoft should be out of business.
Microsoft's market cap is due to its Azure and Office businesses, not Windows or Surface. Microsoft doesn't really compete with Apple.
Exactly, MS’s closest competitor is AWS these days.
Apple isn’t and never will be a competitor to MS in network infrastructure, a key reason Apple is excluded from corporate areas (well that and IT department morlocks hate the beautiful people that use Apple products, but I digress). But Apple does have an in with iOS and ipadOS if only because user demand has been able to outweigh IT department preferences for once. Apple could do a lot more to have total MS Server integration (a real file manager would be key here) to really secure its foothold.

...emoji sure seem profitable... ...the bigger question to me is do mac users really want reinventing (and paying for) workflow changes and the debugging annually to contribute to such numbers...? Vertical apps I license have narrowed sanctioned functionality to single versions of macOS (monterey remains unsupported), and if apps don't align what then...? Are some now better off shareholders than mac professionals day to day...?

Switch to an iKnockoff running Windows Mobile and a glitchy knockoff iPad while you’re at it.

Or - now hear me out - they don’t.
There are a lot of people out there who buy and use computers but yet have zero to very marginal interest in playing video games. For those folks, Apple’s Arcade platform is more than ample to meet their needs.
As always, Apple does just fine as a business that does not try to be all things to all people. The numbers reported atop this forum thread are example enough of that.
