Apple issues fourth developer betas for iOS 15.4, iPadOS 15.4, tvOS 15.4, & watchOS 8.5
Apple has arrived at the fourth beta round, seeding new iOS 15.4, iPadOS 15.4, tvOS 15.4, and watchOS 8.5 builds to developers.
The latest builds can be downloaded by developers in the beta-testing scheme via the Apple Developer Center, or as an over-the-air update for hardware already using earlier beta builds. A public beta version of the releases is expected to start arriving soon, and will be available through the Apple Beta Software Program website.
The fourth round is seeded after the third, which Apple provided to developers on February 15. The second round landed on February 8, and the first was on January 27.
So far, the betas for iOS have included an update for Face ID that adds a second option that will let the feature work when the user's wearing a mask.
Other features spotted include 37 new emoji, driver's license support in Wallet, and Tap To Pay on iPhone.
On iPadOS 15.4, the operating system supports Universal Control, so a Mac user can extend their workspace and use a keyboard and mouse connected to a Mac to interact with the iPad.
AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly insist users avoid installing the betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the very small chance of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install the betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of any important data before performing the update.
