Apple's 'M2' chip, 1Password's crypto support, and more on the AppleInsider podcast
On this week's episode of the AppleInsider podcast, what to expect from Apple's "M2" chip compared to M1 Pro and M1 Max, 1Password now supports crypto wallets, and Spotify acquires more big names in the podcast industry.
Apple has now released the fourth beta of iOS 15.4. It includes updates to the AirTags anti-stalking features, and a new voice option for Siri. HomePod and HomePod mini also gained the ability for voice recognition in Dutch. This latest beta is available both to developers and participants of the public beta program.
A new Apple Store has opened in Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, with beautiful architecture and a waterfront view. We compare some of our favorite Apple Store locations to the three Microsoft Experience stores around the world. The new Apple Store location in Abu Dhabi will also feature unique Today at Apple sessions, including a photo walk, music walk, and art walk.
We expect an updated MacBook Air and base model MacBook Pro to launch in the coming months with an updated "M2" chip. One if your hosts break down the differences between M1, "M2," and the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, including RAM limits, external displays, and core counts. The other nods a lot.
Then guest Jason Aten joins the show to discuss 1Password adding Phantom wallet support to their app. Many users expressed concern over the addition of cryptocurrency and NFT features after the announcement. Jason helps break down the security implications, plus what Apple can do to offer a better password management experience.
We round out the show with a discussion on Spotify, which recently acquired two podcast tech platforms, Podsights and Chartable. As Spotify attempts to become the gatekeeper for podcast metrics and advertising, competition from companies like Apple is desperately needed.
