I just stumbled across this via Facebook: Mac Ultra -Degraded SSD write performance

https://www.trebleet.com/forum/tb3-mac-mini-dock/tested-the-speed-of-the-internal-ssd-of-a-mac-studio-with-m1-max-chip

I had not previously heard of this. Is this true?  Has there been an AI article on it?

Mac studio (for some reason I just can’t remember that name).

Why? SSD speeds for read and write are dependent on how much parallelization there is, meaning how many flash cells there are. Any Mac Studio, ultra or not, with minimum storage has one module, with the fewest chips. This isn't "degraded," this is, literally, expected.

Thanks for the reply - and I didn't know that tidbit - but this is regarding external SSD's that run fast on Intel mac's but slow on M1 Macs. The article I linked to is the first I've heard of it, but that article links to others which eventually links to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253087674 Apparently not all external devices are affected, but some are.

Not the same thing. The link you posted was about the internal drive on the Mac Studio.

There is no way an external SSD on TB3/4 will reach those read speeds that the tester in that link found.
