Other than brightness and better overall resolution, the Samsung blows the ASD out of the water.  The Samsung is bigger, half the price, has more connectivity and supports HDR.  Apple releasing a $1600 display that doesn't support HDR or have ProMotion is absurd.  You're going to pair this with a Mac Mini, presumably.  You're not going to drop $6k minimum on a Mac Pro and pair it with such an inferior display.  You'll spend the money on the Pro Display.  Even for a Mac Studio, this monitor makes little sense.  You can buy a top of the line iMac 24" for $2599.  I assume there will be a pro version coming as well.  Are you going to drop $1300 on a decently spec'd mini and then another $1600 on a display?  Or a mid-level Mac Studio for $2400 plus $1600 for the display?  IDK about anyone else, but if I'm dropping 4 grand on a setup, it should have a more up to date display.
Yeah no, it doesn't. It's bigger, yes, but it's...lower resolution. Bigger is not better just because the screen dimension is bigger EOS.

And it has less connectivity, not more. Re-read the section on Connectivity.

Your presumption that the Studio Display is designed for Mac minis is not valid. I'd presume it's going to be used w/ more MBs, and maybe even the Mac Studio computer that it's named with and displayed with on its homepage.

A month ago I received my Samsung M8. Plugged in, played with it for 30 minutes, went to my Amazon account requested my return. Boxed it up. And dropped it off the following day.

Instead I go myself an ASUS PA329CV - for same-ish price of the Samsung M8 with more professional features and no "TV" - best move I ever did. This ASUS is really sweet. Seek out the specs and reviews on the youtubes.

While the match up seems to be odd I really don't mind the comparisons. But I do wish the articles themselves offer a little more than just spec comparison. While I've no idea more can be offered, I am no writer....

You know HDR on a 400 nit monitor looks like shit, right? Like, switch to the HDR profile and everything gets super dim so the highlights can use that 400 nits. It's hardly a worthwhile feature over 600 nit brightness on the ASD.

Both also use an LED backlighting system rather than mini LED but still offer HDR capabilities.
Uh, the Studio Display does not, even says that much in your table.
Not sure what HDR capabilities even mean but the Samsung is a 4K screen in a larger size so less pixel density.

If it’s a smart TV I’m sure it’s loaded with garbage Android crap just like my Sony TV. The Studio Display is loaded with Apple things which are better for Macs than Android garbage. Not sure why AI continues to review stuff that isn’t from Apple.

Not an Apple to Apples comparison... pun intended. Let me start by saying I'm a BIG fan of Apple going to design school on a Mac.
So I'm an aficionado of Apple products. True blue.

I think Apple made a bad choice by removing the iMac 27" line or taking a hiatus... I hope it's not gone. People like me wouldn't have bought a Samsung if they just upgraded it. But their loss.

I've own ALL Apple products for 20 years... since I was wee little... You can guess that I was a bit skeptical to buy the Samsung M8, but I did. WHAT CAME OVER ME?!! I think Apple offering the 24" wasn't a win for me to swap out my 5K and downgrade to smaller screen. I like the all in one computer with the 27" screen size. So shelling out 1599 for the Studio Display with less ports was so un-sexy of an idea. Bleh.

Let me add... My iMac 27" 5K doubled up as my streaming entertainment and do not own a smart tv.

Enter Samsung M8 at a less expensive price point.

    - Since I have been using my iMac as streaming entertainment, was worried I will burn out my processor eventually between work and non-work stuff... The iMac I have tbh is built to last. I've had it for 7 years and getting older didn't wanna run it so hard.
    - The Samsung M8 seemed like a natural way to keep my iMac for work and if I want to "switch" over to the larger screen from my couch now... I can do it.
    - If I want to get back to work but not at my desk, the versatile Samsung M8 plays nicely with my Apple products. Very nice. Bluetooth, wifi connection. With my HDMI / AV adapter I can play console games on it too. Just for fun.
    - If I never owned my iMac I'm not sure the 4K would bother me. I was surprised it was pretty good. If you need to tune the Samsung M8 to match color design, you can always drop another 149 bucks on Amazon and get the monitor color calibration... And voila you still spent less on an Studio display.
    - I have no idea what this whole viewing angle argument is about... Trying to think how many times in all my years, I actually viewed my 27" iMac while working or watching videos from my desk from the side angle... That argument with the Samsung M8 for me since I watch tv head on, work head on, was ZIP, ZERO, NONE. And quite frankly, silly. Do you do that? Intentionally stand to the side of your display to watch shows, do work stuff, just because...? IF you do, hmu, I'd love to understand WHY.
    - Didn't use the camera enough on my iMac for conferences to care about the picture quality on Samsung M8.
    - Samsung M8 has built in eye protector NO ONE really mentions in the specs but really should...
    - They literally have the same refresh rate at 60hz. If Apple really wanted to be above the crowd they should have introduced the 120hz and slammed dunked it. But they didn't.

As for the techie comparison. It's not really the same. Kinda like comparing the Hyundai to a BMW. Both are good in their right, no shade to either but in two different classes. The Samsung M8 yes, has less tech (image quality ppi and audio) but the bluetooth and wifi options WIN for me and quite awesome. Really. I add my peripherals to it. Like my Apple keyboard and pair it with my iPad, I can extend my iMac, etc... and do a bunch of stuff from my couch.

As a designer I was expecting a crappy second to my iMac 27" 5K but tbh for the price point I'm super duper happy. I can now save the money I didn't spend on the Studio Display and wait for the Mac Mini M2 model that I'm hoping will come soon and use the Samsung M8 with it and if I need a lot of color accuracy can use my still tank of an iMac 5K.

If my iMac dies (hope not), I still have my Samsung M8 display and I can use the Mac Mini M2 for productivity. For me, this swiss army knife custom configuration is truly a win-win.

I take it then the M8 doesn't have the same "settings dance" to work with a MacBook over usb-c as the model prior then.
Model before the same process to connect didn't work 2 days in a row.

Bit weird that the Samsung has mini HDMI rather than full. Why the need to save space on a 32” display?
    Cost cutting.

WiFi internet connectivity and operating system is an absolute security nightmare.

Any targeted hacking attempt - this makes a hacker smile and their job easy.

Exfiltrating data right over the monitor...
