Apple's new 35W power adapter can charge two devices at once

Apple has introduced a new 35W compact power adapter, an accessory that has the potential to charge two devices simultaneously.

35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter

Announced as part of the WWDC launch of the updated MacBook Air, the new 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter is the usual square wall-wart familiar to most users. At 35W, the charger can provide a lot of charge to devices, but it has a better party trick.

At the top are two USB-C ports rather than the standard single port. The change means that it is possible for one charger to be used to recharge two devices at the same time, splitting the wattage depending on what is connected.

The charger is advantageous, since it now means users don't need to keep as many of them on hand to recharge multiple items. This is handy for travel, as well as those who simply don't have enough power outlets in the home.

As is standard for Apple's small charger design, there are fold-out prongs and divots on the sides for grip. It is also compatible with Apple's World Travel Adapter Kit.

The 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter will cost $59. Aside from the United States, it will also be available to customers in Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Nice to see Apple catching up with Anker.  The price is decent for what it is too!

Shame the 67W charger didn’t get the same treatment, forcing a choice between dual port or more power. Dual ports is even more useful when combined with higher power.

Why can't they make it to stand vertically and plug in on the the top so it takes up 1 plug slot on power strips?  They don't even plug in on the side, the plugs are inline with the powerstrip.

UK too, not sure why it’s not on your list. Is it because it isn’t a “compact” version?

The picture shows a USA version which doesn’t support the World Travel Adapter Kit? UK and EU Apple sites show versions with local plugs and which accept the World Travel Adapter Kit.

I guess we will learn more when Apple starts selling the new 35 Watt power adapters.

Why can’t they implement folding pins on this UK version?!?

There are 2 versions! The one shown here is the compact version. The other one has a similar design with the old iPad charger.

Question, can you connect a stereo HomePod mini pair to this single adapter?

I hope so!!!! There are places in my home I would like to put a HomePod mini but won't because the plug is too obtrusive. This design would allow it be much more discreet.

They've done that before on the Apple Watch charger.  It made it a bit bulkier, which is the only reason I can think why they didn't do the same for any other chargers.  Shame, it worked well, and anyone who has seen mine has remarked on how neat it is.

Folding pins on UK chargers aren't really a thing generally.

HomePod mini uses a 20W charger so you might be pushing it.

Bit weird they're doing two versions at the same price.

tbh why would you buy then when you have been able to get the Aukey PA-B4 for 2 years. Its not very large and 65w. It actually has purpose imo.

Yeah, catching up to 3 years ago Anker, maybe. And no, this price is not decent for what you get. Do a little more research, and you’ll see.

Wonder if this could power 2 home pod minis. That would be a really nice use of it, taking up one instead of two power sockets. If so they co usd sell them as bundles.

Agree 100%. This thing should be 40w at least. At least. If one can’t even fast charge an iPhone while simultaneously powering a HomePod Mini, iPad, or Apple Watch, then what is the point of this? And is it even GaN? It doesn’t say here or on Apple’s website.

That's the travel version. But it's also new.  The UK plug you see attached to it is interchangeable to other countries plug. Notice that the USB C ports are on the front rather than the top. Making it less compact when in use. It might be considered "compact" if using the US plug. Which wouldn't make it any wider than the unit itself and offer the advantage of not taking up two or adjacent outlets when using a US power strip. Just like the MagSafe chargers for older MacBooks.

Like what you said, Apple could have copy the Apple Watch version, where the UK plug folds into the unit. But that might also be too bulky to be call "compact" as the folding UK plug takes up more internal space when folded in. Here's a tear down of it and it's only 5W.  Very ingenious design. Not sure if Apple was first to come up with it.

There are so many non-Apple brand chargers that would do this for half the price.  "Apple power" isn't better than any other charger.

Just look around on Amazon.  A dual USB-C 65W charger can be had for $20.  Heck I bought a few dual port USB-C 90W chargers for $18 (reputable brand).

They do for the international version.

Yeah. I do wonder why they offer the US cube version at all.
