Easy - a USB-A port WORKS EVERY TIME.
If you forget to bring a dongle you are SOL - which happens far too often. It would be nice if we could wave a magic wand and banish legacy tech in one fell swoop - but alas, we live in the real world were interoperability still has significant value.
At least they also brought MagSafe back. I had an M1 MacBook Air and by far and away the biggest port I missed was MagSafe. Thank god for the clunky magnetic USB-C solutions that were out there - I'd like to think they embarrassed Apple into bringing MagSafe back.

Get a keychain USB A-to-C adapter and call it a day. I have a few, they've been sitting my my drawer for years now because I never need them.
Shame the machine assume anything in the SD slot could go away without notice. Maybe if the slot had an ejection lock then Apple could Fusion Drive this Style of SD card and SSD as the fast drive then the stock configuration in store would be more appealing without needing to custom.

That's a terrible idea. Most SD cards are slow as shit and prone to failure. Think about how slow and fragile this would make your Mac.
