Apple plans to slow hiring, spending in some teams in 2023

Apple is planning on slowing spending and hiring growth across some teams in 2023 to prepare itself for a potential economic downturn that year.

The decision is apparently a result of a new move to be more cautious during uncertain times, Bloomberg reported Monday. However, the decision is not a companywide policy, sources familiar with the matter said.

According to those sources, the change won't affect all teams. Apple is also still charging ahead with an "aggressive product launch schedule" that could include a mixed-reality headset.

The report comes a little over a week after the company is slated to report its third quarter financial results. Many analysts are optimistic about Apple meeting or outpacing Wall Street expectations in the June quarter.

Although Apple did not provide revenue guidance for the June quarter, it did warn of a potential $4 billion to $8 billion revenue hit because of Covid lockdowns and supply constraints.

Despite the economic uncertainty and warnings of a potential downturn, Apple's flagship devices are expected to do better than ever in 2022 and 2023.

Guess Siri is never getting fixed. Along with the other annoying bugs that have been around for a while.

No, it comes a week _before_ Apple is slated to announce Q3 earnings.

I was thinking the same thing.
Is Apple leaking this stuff so the share repurchases are swallowing up more shares?
There will be excellent results and the financial media will find one tiny sliver of something to pick apart and declare Apple on the verge of bankruptcy, so everyone should sell their stock.

The very strong dollar will make things look worse than they would otherwise. Apple reports results in dollars, but much of their profits are made in other currencies and then converted. For instance, a year ago, the euro was worth almost 18% more in dollars than it is now, so euro-zone profits would have to be up a lot to not appear to be down year-over-year once converted to dollars. Luca Maestri will surely note these “currency headwinds” when reporting the results, but a lot of people will just look at the bottom line and be spooked, or will expect others to be spooked, which has basically the same effect. And journalists are always looking for a shocking headline, so they will take the opportunity to make it look as bad as possible, unless Apple does so in well that it’s easier to justify sensationalism in the opposite direction.

Eurozone profits are small as Europeans are cheap and stupid in general , but yes Asian profits will be hit by the same issue , and that will be bigger hit

Anyone else want to do a union? Frankly, I think apple don’t need half of their stores , close  half of them and let’s see where these unionizers can find a place better than Apple

    Burger King?

And you see, here we are 24h later and this obviously factual error is still in the article. Who cares right? The article's already published, clicks are happening, ads are serving. Quality doesn't matter so long as the $$ rolls in!
