Again, you kinda got me pegged wrong. Jealousy had NOTHING whatsoever to do with it. More an issue of "am I going to catch a stray bullet checking the mail?".
In this three to four dimensional world, there are always more than two sides to things. I guess I was not targetting you as much as I got of on a mini rant induced by suppressed anger over unjustified hatred borne by my cleaning lady. Mea culpa, pscates.
In this instance I'm not sure I can fault the Cuban government. The U.S. would do the same and worse to people colluding with a foreign government and attempting to overthrow the regime.
Contrary to popular belief, opposition is allowed. Cuba's most famous dissident (whose name eludes me at the moment) is free and clear simply because he refuses to talk to the U.S. diplomats that are trying to 'team up' with him. He refuses our money, our resources and our conversation. For that he's been able to get the word out legally.
Now this dissident follows the law, and if he is to be locked up like the others, then there would be a serious problem. But if people are disobeying the law, well that's the fear in breaking the law.
To make the things clear : i heard this info in a french radio, who interviewed someone from an humanright org. The man did not believe for one second that these people where breaking the law. I gave a US link, because a french one will not interest many people. These people did not collude to overthrow the regime, but wish to add more democratia in it. A legitimate wish in my humble opinion.
Even if there is a lot of welfare in Cuba, but with a very low level of life, it does not forgive the total lack of democratia. In the last years things where improving, but now Castro is just back-pedaling.
I think it is telling that Castro uses opportunities when world attention is elsewhere to crush opposition. Efforts to coddle him and "work" with him have never yielded freedom for the people of Cuba.
No More Cuban Embargo! Let's stage an AI protest against this ineffective policy which helps sustain the poverty of the Cubanos.
By an unilateral decision, i nominate you ColanderOfDeath, Official AI protestor, in the eleven day of April 2003 from the Chiraqi kingdom of insanity.
This nomination is effective immedialty, and Sir CoD will be embedded with all the priveleges of his inherent duties.

That's definitely a legitimate wish. But if accepting funds from the U.S. for politics is considered a crime (and at some level I believe it is), and these people did accept dollars for support (as I believe they did), then they put themselves in a bad situation.
Maybe they never took money. Maybe under the circumstances that they did it should have been considered legal.
I just know that one of the most vocal protesters is still on the streets because although he's under surveilence 24/7, he's carefull not to cross the line. And if he's the #1 'dissident' why wasn't he rounded up with these others if they were rounded up illegally? That doesn't make sense to me. If these others were taken after not breaking the law, this guy (who's name I still can't remember) would also have been picked up without valid reason.
There is many org in France, who recieve money from foreign countrie, and people do not go in jail for this reason .
If they are spies, they should go to jail, if they try to make a coup d'etat they should go to jail, but recieving money is not a good reason to spent 25 years of your life in prison.
The reality is there : there is no democratia in Cuba. More any countrie who has the same leader for 30 years, is not a democratia, but a dictature. Castro is not Saddam, but that does not make him a saint.
I wish that when he will leave the power, a democratic process will start in Cuba.

Maybe we should just nominate him for his unwavering ColanderOfDeathship in times of dire need.
