„Shantaram“ is one of my favorite tv shows I watched on Apple TV+. It's really unique – connecting the Indian and the Western world. And the actors really did a good job. I don't know why Apple canceled „Shantaram“ – but it definitely was the wrong decision!
I've read the book twice. Second time for the philosopy in it. Exactly when it came out, about 19 years ago. When I watched the tv series, it was very much similar to the book I read, in fact some of the lines I could even recollect from the book and the world has changed in these 19 years, but a nostalgia such as this for someone who's read Shantaram, Maximum City, Sacred Games and all Bombay books and living in Mumbai as we call it now... is surreal. Sad that they had to cancel it.... But hey I've read the book so no worries Btw, the author also wrote a sequel to Shantaram called Mountain Shadow, takes you to Sri Lanka and continues his journey.. (Fiction) Well maybe if you would still want you can read the book and probably won't be dissapointed. Ohh btw, there was a movie also in the making which didn't work out. Apparently Johnny Depp as Gregory David Roberts (Lin) and Amitabh Bacchan (Famous Indian Actor) to star directed by the one and only Mira Nair of The Namesake fame. (Which also is a book I read about 20 years ago) became a great movie... sadly that also didn't happen I think this book is jinxed in a way...
