Aqara has boosted its smart home portfolio, adding a new Homekit Secure Video doorbell, plus the company's first smart deadbolt lock.

The Video Doorbell G4 works with Aqara's indoor home cameras to help people keep an eye on their homes, families, and visitors. Installation is flexible, and the device supports a battery or continuous power via a wire.

The Doorbell G4 supports HomeKit Secure Video, which lets Apple users securely store video in iCloud using end-to-end encryption, and they don't count towards the storage capacity. It does, however, require an iCloud+ subscription.

Using local facial recognition powered by artificial intelligence, it can trigger different automation depending on the person. It includes a seven-day free trial for cloud storage or local storage using a Micro SD card.

The second announcement from Aqara is a deadbolt lock, its first such product. It's compatible with HomeKit and supports the home key feature in Apple Wallet.

The lock includes other ways for authenticating access, including fingerprints, passwords, NFC cards, mechanical keys, and the Aqara Home app. It's based on the Zigbee networking protocol with support for Matter via a compatible hub from Aqara.

Pricing and shipping information isn't known yet for either product.

From what I can find this looks to be the first Homekit Secure Video Doorbell that can be battery powered. Logitech, Netatmo, Wemo and Arlo all seem to offer wired only.

Yep, I think you’re exactly right. I don’t have a wired doorbell and have been waiting for a battery powered HSV option. So I’m pretty excited to learn more about this.

Yes. But does it need a separate mains powered hub like the battery powered Eufy cameras? And if it’s HSV, why would you need to buy their cloud storage?
