Hmm, interesting: if you go to the AppleWorks home page, it's still the old box art and the most recent thing they mention is 6.2.4.

Questions: what happened to 6.2.5 and 6.2.6, and will this be a downloadable update? If it's not substantial, I shan't be shelling out $79 for it...

Is the name that disappoints you? I'll save my judgement until I see the final product. Just hope I can start the spell checker anywhere in the document (instead of starting from top all the time) I also hope to be able to edit a document without 'canceling' the spell cheacker. That along with font smoothing would make me satisfied.

Unless they've gone completely insane and bumped a huge raft of extra features and OS X optimisations into a point upgrade...

I dig the new box also. But I'd like a 'full' release of 7 w/ the compatibility, stability and xtras we come to expect of Apple. Maybe circa Panther we'll get 7....

Why are they waiting until 4/23 too release the downloadable version? Does it have something to do with putting it in a package that only updates?

The AppleWorks 6.2.4 update was released in April of 2002. Even back then, there was a clamor for an OS X native, state-of-the-art rebuild.

We've been waiting for 12 months and now we get a dot update.

It's enough to make you think the AppleWorks team is in competition with Quark to see who can take longer to ship.

No need to despair just yet. I'm still hopeful to see a full-featured, OS-X native suite by Apple this year (2003). Also, don't rule out any goodness that may be coming with this dot update.

It's probably to make educators a little more happy, get it working with OS X better, easier for them to make the transition.

The previous point releases tightened AW up in noticeable ways, so I'm hoping this three-point release knocks down the last irritating inconsistencies and performance issues in AW6. It'll be about time.

If they found a way to use Carbon Events, use a native UI, and use Quartz for text display in OS X, all the better. But I'm not really hoping for those until it runs only in OS X.

Well, disapppointing news for people looking forward to AppleWorks 7, but encouraging news for people looking forward to the Apple Office suite of Document, Calc, and Keynote.

Time will tell, but I find it hard to believe they would go to a native UI and Quartz-compatibility and not push it to Version 7.

Anybody know how big the download will be?

Not erally actually, if all we are getting is a point update of AppleWorks, then maybe they have something bigger in the works?

AppleWorks to compete with MS Works with this new version, and then something else (probably including Keynote) to compete with Office?

    Just a thought.

Well we're around 72 hours to go and Apple seems to have kept a complete secret of a dot update to a several-year-old productivity suite.

The 970, iPod and Panther I can understand, but the lack of info/rumors about AppleWorks 6.2.7 confuses me to no end.

Has the rumor mill been completely silenced? In the old days, there would have been no problem getting info on something this insignificant.

Mr. Jobs, this is impressive indeed.

    That's cruel, man.

I don't think we need fret.

The writing is on the wall for M$. 970+Panther?

I think we're going to see something significant ala iWorks which does for the Office Suite what Keynote did for Powerpoint. 'iWorks'...will make M$ Office seem so cluttered...so 80s...
