Just a few things on my Appleworks wish list for this update...
Easy to use tables that anchor to the document. Appleworks 5 and the current version of 6 completely mangled a business plan I spent countless hour on because it simply wouldn't hold the tables I built from save to save.
On-the-fly spelling and grammar checker.
Collaborative editing with color coded temporary tracked changes that can approved/disapproved. It would be nice if this feature carried over to and from M$ Words docs... I have to us M$ Word at work, but I use Appleworks for all my home writing. It's a shame that I have to do all my complex personal writing on the work machine and go through the rigamarole of swapping files between both machines.
I am waaaaaay to financially challenged to shell out for the M$ Word version for OSX, and I'm too ethical to procure it in a more clandestine manner.
I want to use Appleworks, but Appleworks makes it hard to want to work with Appleworks.
If I were granted one request it would be that it would let you have more than 20 or so tabs (the little ones you set with the triangles with either left, center, or right aligns.)
Try making a word search and running out of those little buggers...gah.
I'll be keeping an eye on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120207: currently empty, but all of yesterday's Apple Remote Desktop updates occupy the previous few pages and those things are completely sequential.
It's not available via Software Update Panel as of yet. (They do have an Airport update available). I'm downloading from the Apple website. it says Appleworks 6.2.5-6.2.7/ 15.7 Mgs.
My guess is that this release was actually prompted by the new iBooks. Note the bump in version number here - I'm guessing they sat on these updates for a while but decided to release it when the unnamed new office suite failed to be ready in time. AppleWorks is probably a big app for many iBook users in education.
Heck, I even bought a copy. It was $30 educationally and Carbonized before Office. It even runs great under Windows.

Look at my post above, eWeek are probably using it as their "source".
Don't put faith in eWeek articles not written by de Plume.

Isn't this a good example of misplaced sense of self importance.
I'm downloading it now!
My kids use Appleworks but I don't so I guess they will see what has changed if anything. Spell checker is still done by going to the edit menu.
Wish word loaded this fast.
Hold your horses, everyone else...
