In the latest chapter of a long-running saga, new Apple OLED screen supplier BOE has reportedly not been selected to supply screens for the rumored OLED iPad.

BOE has previously been known for making iPhone display panels. Even then it's had a rocky relationship with Apple over manufacturing issues and quality control.

A new report from Business Korea, however, says that BOE had at least been trying to expand into iPad Pro screen production.

The publication reports that Apple has now placed orders for 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch OLED panels that will be used in new iPad Pro models due to come out in 2024. The report explicitly states that BOE has been excluded from the other.

It also says that Apple is planning to bring OLED displays to the MacBook Pro, starting in 2026. This backs up rumors that Apple intends to use the technology in its laptops, but goes against a recent Ming-Chi Kuo claim that it the first models would be out by the end of 2024.

Previously, Samsung was reported to have agreed to develop OLED in the two-stack form that Apple wants. Separately, LG Display has been reportedly prepared OLED production lines specifically for the iPad.
