The iPhone 15 Pro Max could be thicker than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but at the same time, it may also have a slightly smaller camera bump.

Early concepts of what the iPhone 15 Pro could look like

Renders based on CAD drawings and supposed dimensions for the iPhone 15 Pro Max were posted to Twitter on Sunday night by serial leaker "Ice Universe," detailing the iPhone 15 Pro Max's size.

According to the leaker, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 159.86mm tall and 76.73mm wide, giving it a slightly smaller footprint over the iPhone 14 Pro Max's 160.7mm and 77.6mm (6.33 inches by 3.05 inches).

While marginally smaller in height and width, the thickness for 2023 will be a bit more than in 2022, at 8.25mm to 7.85mm (0.31 inches).

Though the iPhone 15 Pro Max may be thicker, that's only if you account for the main body itself. Taking the camera bump into account, the total depth of 11.84mm is slightly smaller than the 12.03mm of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with camera.

The camera bump alone is 3.59mm thick, down from 4.18mm in the iPhone 14 variant, a difference of almost 0.6mm. In short, the camera bump won't stick out from the back as much as usual.

As for the overall appearance, the renders seem to play into the claims of a more rounded appearance overall, including curved bezels for the display.

The source of the leak, "Ice Universe," has a good track record when it comes to iPhone details, such as the reduced notch in the iPhone 13. This, combined with earlier rumors, gives the renders a bit of credibility.

However, as with all leaks and rumors, nothing is guaranteed until Apple introduces a new iPhone on-stage in the fall.

You know what would be really cool?  NO camera bump.

Just make the phone thicker.  We're going to do it with a case anyway, might as well not have the ridiculous looking camera bump.

Does this mean anything for the display size or just cosmetic? Not that I’d object to a thinner phone but I’m actually used to the 6.7” display.

Display size is to remain the same. The slightly smaller height and width will produce smaller bezels.

then the phone would be even thicker with the inevitable case, so no.

The iPhone 14 was also rumored to be thicker with a smaller camera bump, so I wouldn’t count on it.

A thicker phone with a case is still thicker than a thinner phone with a case.

I am likely to be a launch day customer for the iPhone 15, so some of these rumors are rather intriguing. I get the focus (!) on the camera systems, and over time these have come a very long way. The rumors about the capacitive buttons is interesting, as I really wonder about the rumored future "portless" iPhone. The one thing that seems to prevent such a thing is the speaker and microphone systems. Something has to wiggle the air (or be wiggled by the air for a microphone.)

Last year's WWDC had a segment on the "future of Car Play" and I'm curious what that will actually roll out to be like. I get that Apple is rather at the mercy of what car manufacturers install on the dashboard (or have installed over the last few years), but I would think that an Apple branded wireless Car Play dongle would be a seller.

Terrible idea! Then with the case it gets even thicker! Gross. I often use my phone w/o a case and prefer it thin. I have zero issue with battery life, so making it thicker just to ease your OCD does me no favor.

The camera bump gives the phone some character.  Imagine how plain it would look if they did your idea.

I know I'm in the minority here but I only have the case because of the bump. Without the bump, I wouldn't have a case.

What would be nice if they would focus on improving their camera. Sam song kicks Apples tail on clarity and zoom. It’s ridiculous that phone after phone that comes out they can’t match Samsung‘s zoom and quality.
