Apple renews 'The Morning Show' for season four ahead of third season premiere

The hit television series "The Morning Show" on Apple TV+ has been renewed for season four ahead of the season three premiere, with a possible fifth season as an option.

Apple renewed the series for a third season in January 2022, and it arrives in the fall, although the company hasn't shared a premiere date yet. A report on Monday from Deadline reveals that a fourth season will also happen.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon star in the series and serve as executive producers. Their contracts were set to end at the end of season three, but Apple is reportedly in talks with them to continue with season four and possibly even a fifth season.

New actors who will appear in the third season include Nicole Beharie, Stephen Fry, Jon Hamm, and Tig Notaro. The series also stars Nestor Carbonell, Mark Duplass, Janina Gavankar, Marcia Gay Harden, Tom Irwin, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, and Desean Terry.

Witherspoon said that Hamm will play the character Paul Marks, a media mogul who gives Billy Crudup's Cory Ellison a "run for his money."

The Morning Show is inspired by the book "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV" by Brian Stelter. The program explores the personalities and customs of a network's morning news broadcast.

Mimi Leder serves as the project's director and executive producer, while Media Res, Hello Sunshine, and Echo Films are responsible for production. Michael Ellenberg, Kristin Hahn, and Lauren Neustadter also serve as executive producers.

I’m a big fan of this series, lots of great over-the-top drama and seriously fun characters. It has a Aaron Sorkin ensemble feel, but with less misogyny. Looking forward to the next drop.

Less misogyny, and more misandry?  Please explain what comparison you are making.

This show is completely average. Big shiny stars aside, there is nothing new or original about it, at all. If the title said “Apple Cancels The Morning Show” instead, how many people would really care?

As with any TV show, all the people who watch and enjoy it. And clearly, there are enough of them to justify renewing the show, potentially for two seasons, despite the cost of its high profile stars.

As with any TV show, all the people who watch and enjoy it. And clearly, there are enough of them to justify renewing the show, potentially for two seasons, despite the cost of its high profile stars.

All of the people? I applaud your optimism, but respectfully disagree. It’s more likely that most of those people would simply fill the hole with the next available show that someone else has convinced them is supposed to be good. Would there be enough left over to, for example, put billboards up in Times Square or start a Twitter campaign to bring it back? Does this show have that clout?

To be clear, I don’t hate this show, I just find that it falls way short of the hype that all the big names bring to it. For me and the people I know, The Morning Show barely cracks the top 20 of the best shows on Apple TV+.  And that’s not all of tv, just Apple TV+.
