How come everyone has a British accent, instead of French?

It's the idea that accents on English are not necessary when the audience already knows the characters are from a specific non-English speaking country.

Because history is written by the winners, in this case British, so they get to make the movie  ;)

Abel Gance directed the definitive film on Napoléon in 1927, without CGI but with multiple cameras and split screen views. Watch it, preferably with a live orchestra playing the score written for the 1980 re-release by Carmine Coppola, and decide for yourself which is the better film.

"shows the horror of war" by those who've never been to war. Not even close.
