Saw the new 15" in the Apple Store last week, what a gorgeous machine. My previous favourite was the 12" MBA (in my closet currently but still running), but given the svelte nature of the newest MBAs, having that extra screen is very enticing. The 15" would make a great work machine (my needs don't require the ooomph of an MBP), and I"d bet a lot of students would opt for it later this summer.

“I believe a DigiTimes report at face value” is the new “I will give you my ATM PIN number for a Klondike bar.”
Completely agree, and sad that the first ones here to complain are MacRumors-style (race to be the first to post a negative comment) low post counts followed by the usual resident negative nelly suspects all too gleeful to gloat in a negative *rumor* about Apple.

It is no secret that 13" Air was a runaway success due to it's portability(weight, size) & M technology that most users liked, needed. But, many users also complained and asking for larger screen Air again with portability. They got 15"Air. I am sure Apple will look at consumer's(casual, academics, enterprise) response and adjust the technology/configuration/price. So, longer term 15" Air will be successful as other MacBook versions.

This report is a bit premature considering the 15" Air has only been available for 6 weeks and over the Summer vacation period. This is conveniently reported just days before Apple's Q3 earnings report:

Highly suspect. Digitimes has done this before.

The 15" Air will sell really well in the back to school period.

Tricked? lol. I have absolutely zero qualms with our recent 13” M2 MBA. The majority of Apple’s customers are not neckbeards or specs-mongers. I doubt many using a MBA M2 are tapping out its potential as a very portable, non-pro notebook.
Perhaps not, but consumers are not all stupid either. These are not cheap machines and people want the best bang for their buck. It’s not unusual for sales to slow down as the expectation of a refresh builds.
Stupidity has nothing to do with it. I don’t think many MBA customers are pushing the envelop on compute needs on their very-portable. Completely happy with ours and not taxing it whatsoever.

Yes, it's on the readers, but it's also on AppleInsider, big time. Look at the headline: "sales are half" stated as fact with no qualifying wording. It's just clickbait bullshite. Look at the rumor rating: "Possible." Really? Oh sure... "anything is possible under the sun" -- but If a rumor from a single source with a very poor track record of accuracy doesn't qualify as "Unlikely," then what does?

If Sales are 50% expected then production should be cut not scaled as 50% of stock would be left to service demand for the same time period.

So sales must be much higher than. Indeed the product is new with the highest potential for returns due to faults or other reasons. I would have thought production was 120% or more of sales expectation.

A scaling of production could be a sign of better-than-expected retention of units with customers. Maybe a bit of both.

Still yes, while the original story does seem to jump eagerly to negative conclusions. Apple's base model configurations and upgrade prices really are getting ridiculous. Especially as they set them in US dollars and just apply that world wide.

Let’s hypothesise that you are looking to replace an existing, albeit out of date, Mac.

If you knew that in 6 weeks a refreshed model would come out, likely at the same price as the current gen model, would you hold off?

I suspect that the vast majority would wait the 6 weeks. After all, unless you have no choice because your old computer has just died or something, why wouldn’t you wait and get the newer machine that will last you a year longer for the same price?

Obviously I do not know when the new model will come out, but it’s likely to be soon.

When I refer to people not being stupid I was not suggesting that someone who already owns an M2 MacBook Air was a fool. I was simply pointing out that most people, if they are aware a refresh is due soon, would not spend a significant amount of money on what is soon to be a last gen product.

You’re right. And next thing we read that the new 15 MB Air has smashed sales records. Story is not credible, and it’s too early to be definitive.
