Apple releases revised macOS Sonoma, iOS 17 developer beta 4
A revised version of the macOS Sonoma and iOS 17 developer beta 4 has been released, likely to address boot loops and other issues plaguing users.
New developer beta 4 is available
Developers enrolled in the program can access the latest builds by either visiting the Apple Developer Center or updating their Macs to the newest beta software. For public users, beta versions are normally made available through the Apple Beta Software Program after the developer versions are released.
Apple released the fourth developer beta on July 25, and it was immediately followed by reports of issues installing the beta on Macs. A new version of that fourth beta is now available for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma.
The updated fourth build for macOS Sonoma is number 23A5301h, replacing the previous one, build number 23A5301g. The updated build for iOS 17 beta 4 is 215291j, up from 21A5291h.
What's new in iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma
iOS 17 includes multiple updates like interactive widgets, StandBy, and new iMessage features. The system-wide autocorrect has also been rebuilt using a transformer language model.
The various changes in macOS Sonoma include new screensavers that resemble those of the Apple TV, which also have a smooth fade-away when turned off. A clock can be superimposed on the screensaver, along with the Mac lock screen.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users don't install beta operating systems or other beta software on "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
