LG Display gets iPhone 15 Pro OLED approval as Samsung sees shipments rise
LG Display has finally received approval to produce OLED screens for the iPhone 15, with rival Samsung expecting to benefit from higher shipments for 2023.

Earlier in July, LG Display reportedly had problems producing OLED panels for use in the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as issues with a new manufacturing process. After seemingly resolving problems, Apple is now willing to take shipments from LG Display once again.
According to sources cited by The Elec, LG received "conditional approval" for the iPhone 15 Pro OLED panel. Mass production approval for the OLED panel used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max has yet to be granted, but LG may receive that soon.
Having previously dealt with setbacks relating to bezels and hole displays and receiving late approvals for production, this isn't new territory for LG Display. It received late conditional approval for the production of panels for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Long-time screen supplier Samsung is still prominent in the mix
The other main OLED supplier, Samsung Display, is anticipated to increase its OLED shipments to Apple for the remainder of 2023. Aside from the LG Display issues, Samsung also received the initial shipments intended to have come from BOE, prompted by issues in making the hole display for Apple's Dynamic Island.
During LG's iPhone 14 Pro Max production disruption, Samsung took over shipments for more than 10 million units, resulting in a 1 trillion-won ($777 million) raise in operational profit.
The Elec is a good source of data from within Apple's supply chain, but is less accurate when it comes to predicting Apple's future plans. Tuesday's report is more the former than the latter.
