Apple's updated iCloud+ storage plans are now live, with two new capacity options available from $29.99 per month.

iCloud+ tiers

Introduced during Apple's "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday, the iCloud+ plan options are expanding by two new tiers. The existing 50GB, 200GB, and 2TB options are being joined by 6TB and 12TB capacities.

The 6TB version costs $29.99 per month, while the 12TB tier is $59.99 per month.

Apple frames the upgrades as the "perfect complement" to the new 48MP Main cameras in the iPhone 15 lineup, as well as for storing 4K video. The capacities will also be useful for users of Family Sharing, with less chance of filling up the provided storage.

Along with high storage capacities, the iCloud+ plans include features like Private Relay, Hide My Email, HomeKit Secure Video, and custom email domains.

In Canada, the prices are as follows: (these prices AND storage options are ADDED TO your existing 2 TB Apple One plan. I'm guessing that that also applies to US customers.)

    50 GB = C$1.29/mo
    200 GB = C$3.99/mo
    2 TB = C$12.99/mo
    6 TB = C$39.99/mo
    12 TB = C$79.99/mo

If this isn't clear, by ADDING those monthly fees to your Apple One monthly bill, your five storage options, when you include the 2TB that comes with Apple One, actually are:

    2.05 TB
    2.2 TB
    4 TB
    8 TB
    14 TB

As long as you are also paying for the AppleOne plan with 2TB.

Cloud storage is very expensive - you need to decide if the convenience and security is worth the price differential to operating your own NAS box.

I have a reasonably small Dropbox account on an annual membership that is fairly inexpensive...  and 140-odd TB of local storage, which covers my needs.  Actually, I have 3 times that amount since I maintain two backups.
