One of
the earliest Apple TV+ commissions, "For All Mankind" has presented an alternative view of the 1960s space race and steadily extrapolated a whole new world. For this fourth season, the action is back in Happy Valley, Mars.

Following a teaser trailer in September 2023, the new extended look at the season details the conflicts on Mars and Earth.

"Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since Season 3," says Apple, "Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners."

"Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars," it continues. "But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working towards."

Created by Ronald D. Moore, the new season debuts on Friday, November 10, 2023. The ten-episode season then continues weekly until January 12, 2024.

Begin the body count! It's a great series, but it's very, very grim. Impossible (for me) to rewatch.

It took me a while to get around to watching season one, but once I did I realized this is possibly the best show on tv right now. Even my wife, who hates space and sci-fi, is hooked.

I was expecting to see a greater emphasis on robots, if they were going to try to place For All Mankind in the same universe as their Foundation series. Failing that, they could have put a greater emphasis on AI, since we're having tremendous breakthroughs in AI in 2023.

But I find it curious that this series begins in 2003, which is the same year that Susan Calvin receives her bachelor degree in the Foundation universe, and the year that the earth bans robots for personal use. If we see either of these things occur this season, we know the shows are in the same universe. This could be the last season Apple has to place the two franchises in the same universe.

Why would they put them in the same universe?

They are not and nobody said they would be.

To make money. For example, if people who like Superman discover that Superman shows up in a Batman movie, they may go see that Batman movie. Maybe money isn't important to you, but Apple is a business.

Both of your statements are correct, at this point in time.

DC owns those properties and has overlapped them for a long time in their own universe based on a long history of comics. This is two separate IPs with nothing in common. Why on earth would you think Apple can just merge those very separate IPs, a ~75 yo series of books with a contemporary historical fiction series developed for TV? What makes you think they CAN?
