M3 iMac will look about the same as it does now, says leaker
A new rumor claims that Apple will unveil a 24-inch iMac with the same chassis design as before, but with the company's first M3 processor.
The current 24-inch iMac
In the chaotic few weeks of rumors about forthcoming Apple devices, it has been predicted that there will be the first M3 Macs. Until Tuesday, the consensus between leakers was clear that M3 Macs would come in 2024.
Now Bloomberg's Mark Gurman is saying the October launch will contain the M3 iMac.
Rather than citing new information, however, he's reposting his report saying this in March 2023. This is the report that was superseded for the last few months of Gurman saying the launch had to be 2024.
Apple has been planning an M3 iMac for a while, with the machine going into production months ago. No other major changes other than the chip, but the stand's internal design has been tweaked. I'd expect colors to remain similar. https://t.co/7nm7Zyq94b
The 24-inch iMac was last updated with an M1 processor in 2021, so it is arguably long overdue for an update. But if the report is correct, it would mean the iMac presumably skipping the M2 processor entirely.
There is also the fact that there has been a leak claiming a new MacBook Pro will be unveiled at the event.
Apple could very well be launching a series of M3 Macs, or even just a series of updated M2 Macs. So it's possible that both the iMac and the MacBook Pro will see refreshes with the new processor.
None of the rumors account for Apple's unusual timing for its event, though. "Scary Fast" will start at 5:00PM PT, about seven hours later in the day than Apple's traditional launch times.

An iMac with a tiny screen, little base RAM, and tiny base storage with no way to expand either... It doesn't seem that the style or processor speed would make any difference - it'll still be a sub-standard choice for the sort of things you'd use a Mac desktop for, particularly creative work like photography, video, music. It'll still be a sad afterthought of a computer.
If they released a Mac mini with a high memory configuration, and a couple of M.2 slots, the iMac would die off in an instant.
In fact, no iMac, going into the future should be released without target display mode. Being able to connect on the fly to other Mac’s or iPad Pro’s enhances value of the Mac ecosystem. Apple curated monitors has always been a step up from most of the so-so monitors offered in the PC world, living in a dungeon/cave with an Oled 230 nit monitor isn’t step up for most people.

For the iMac 24, it needs to hit a $1000 price point. An M1 model with 8 GB RAM, 256 GB for about $1000? A $300 drop from the current $1300 price point sounds a bit too large of a drop for an (n-1) model in current economic conditions. Maybe $1100.
So if the new iMac has the same design with a bare-bones M3 base model chip, no thanks. It will still have all the limitations of the existing design and Apple will have it overpriced too.
And the white bezel only worked when the entire iMac was white (iMac G4, G5, and early Intel iMacs).
