It's already been shown that USB C will work in the older iPhones.

Apple should get their act together.
Do you ever make any comments here this aren't a negative bonehead comment towards Apple? I mean seriously....your comments usually never make any sense without any thought what so ever as to why Apple is actually doing something the way they are and why they have a certain stance on things. It would be great if you would get rid of this tinfoil hat theory that Apple is constantly out to screw its customers over.

Mr darkvader feels to present his/her view from the dark-side of anti Apple universe.

indian officials probably want some money from Apple.
That would be my guess too. Why would Apple waste their efforts in retrofitting USB-C in older iPhones for selling few thousand units in India? it is not as-if Apple is selling millions of iPhones in India and the demand from Indian officials would impact Apple in anyway in terms of sales in India. The only practical option for Apple would be to stop selling the older models with lightning port. And it won't have even 0.1% impact in terms of revenue for Apple. The demand from Indian officials doesn't make any sense to me. It is either a show of power or an attempt at money grab.

Has it actually gotten any better with USB-C?
Disclaimer:  I was a chip design engineer at Intel, AMD, 3Com, DEC and others, around for the birth of Ethernet, PCI, USB, FW, Tbolt, etc.

    Actually, it’s only gotten worse.

It’s been 8 years since the 12” MacBook was the first machine with only a USB-C port, yet most non-Macs still ship with a smattering of USB-A and USB-C ports. USB 4 specifications allow so many features to be optional at the manufacturer’s discretion it's ridiculous. Today, the only surefire USB-C cabling is Tbolt 4 cables because they are validated to guarantee support for every variation of USB. Until all manufacturers drop USB B and A connectors altogether, supply C to A adapters to accommodate connections to legacy devices and all hosts and hubs support the full USB 4 spec, this craziness will continue.
