The only reason why I laugh at the notion of an $2k iPad Pro is not because it's bad hardware. I just don't feel like iPad OS and iPad software is exceptional given the constraints the iPad places on workflows.
And yet the so-called competition can't match it to this day with software and hardware, but Apple is supposed to give it away.
Nobody is asking Apple to give it away. I would suggest they put more emphasis on making the OS work as a viable alternative to a MacBook or PC laptop. I certainly don't look at an iPad and think "Oh if only the display was better". I do however struggle to match the multitasking options of my MacBook and have lots of other complaints (not least of which is the current price when marched up with a decent keyboard). The idea that this price may rise substantially just seems to be absolutely the wrong priority. Make the OS amazing and then start tweaking things that are already really good.
I'm sorry, but I can buy LG's superb and current 48" C3 OLED TV for about $1100... or LG's 48" OLED gaming monitor for $850... but putting a 13" OLED panel in an iPad is going to drive the price to $2,000 because why?
TV prices are often subsidized because the manufacturers install spyware (android) and make money selling your data. Not sure if that applies to the specific models you reference, but it’s something to be aware of.
That still leaves a 48" LG OLED gaming monitor at $850, with no spyware or data to offer anyone to atract subsidies. It's just a screen.
Firstly, that would be “ The latest rumor about the device, courtesy of yeux1122 …” and yeah, the bigger picture is what do people really use the iPad for? I mostly use it to consume data, media etc and do not create anything on it, which is what my computers are for. No matter the specs, the screen, the ram or the disk space, it is just not worth 2k to me. Can edit a video on a phone or iPad? Sure. Do I want to? No.
Well, first off this is just a rumor, so take it for what it's worth.
If they offered an OLED version along side an LCD version which version consumers preferred. My guess is very few would be willing to pay the premium just for an OLED screen, especially with how good the LCD screens have become.
Well, the rumors are that the iPad Air will have a 11" and 13" model. But, Apple will add features to differentiate the price between the two and price accordingly for the upsell. People will have to want the OLED.
Curiously, there are rumors that the iPad Air will get an OLED display too. It's going to be interesting how it all plays out.
Would like to see 2 Thunderbolt ports, SD card slot and 3.5mm audio port come back if Apple wants to create some upsell. I have a whole lot of ideas on what I'd like to see in a tablet.
"Curiously, there are rumors that the iPad Air will get an OLED display too"
Rumors are saying 2026 at the EARLIEST.
That’s the latest rumor from one source. The rumors of the iPad Air using OLED has been going on for 3 years now though.
Probably waiting on how well the iPad Pro with OLED does, and they thought miniLED couldn’t be an upsell over OLED. So, iPad displays were on hold while dual layer OLEDs reached mass production, and miniLED became the upsell feature for the iPP13 and MBP14/16 models.
The Air models will not use these dual layer OLEDs imo, and I think they can have iPA models with single layer OLEDs pretty quick when the conditions are right. Meanwhile, the MBP models are slated to have dual layer OLEDs too.
miniLED was going to be Apple’s display tech that would proliferate across the line. It stalled out. Guessing this meant not enough display makers were could fab at the prices Apple wanted for the lower end hardware.

Apple will be very happy to sell you an iPad 10th Gen for $450, and you can even find one for $350 on Amazon.
They have an entire iPad lineup from $330 to $1200, base prices. People who want one, can get the one that best suits them.
And, yes, it bears repeating that this comes from what looks to be a leaker from East Asia who doesn’t appear to have supply chain information, let alone info from Apple product marketing. No one knows Apple’s pricing outside of the marketing team in Cupertino. No one.
