Apple Vision Pro storage cabinets appear in stores ahead of launch

In one of the few indications that Apple is preparing its stores for the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, a new cabinet has been spotted that will contain items used in headset demonstrations.

Apple is busy getting ready to put the Apple Vision Pro up for preorder from January 19, with sales beginning from February 2. As part of its preparations, it is gearing its U.S. Apple Stores up to offer demonstrations to potential buyers.

One of the changes is the appearance of a new cabinet on the showroom floor. Shared by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on Monday via X, the wooden cabinet is shown at the end of a table.

This Apple Store has put a new cabinet on its showroom floor related to the Vision Pro quite a bit early. This is for storing items related to the demos. https://t.co/MPsLc1TIca pic.twitter.com/M6DIdeSgE3

The cabinet is nondescript and has four drawers, with no items placed on top and no overt labeling. It also sticks out a bit from the rest of the storefront, since it is a different width than the table and though it is wooden in appearance, it doesn't quite match up with the nearby table's coloring.

Apple customers heading to the Apple Store for a demonstration of the Apple Vision Pro will be taken to dedicated areas of the store, Gurman wrote on Sunday. The visit, including a demo that could take up to 25 minutes, will apparently include a face scan of the customer and a quickly assembled headset custom to their head dimensions and vision.

Given Apple's launch of a major new product for the company, as well as a need for dedicated demo areas, the cabinet is likely to be only a small part of in-store changes, with more to follow in the next few weeks.

No way Ive would have approved that cabinet if he was still at Apple.

Ouch it should match the width of the table at least. Sloppy.

I bet there are two teams at Apple, one sees the vision pro as the first step towards a grand future, the other sees it as a marketable product that is ready to sell and save the stock value by any means necessary.

This table is symbolic of that lack of cohesion.

It really is funny that we all immediately notice how "un-apple" the symmetry of the storage cabinet is compared to the other display tables.

Jony Ive is rolling over in his grave.

Different cabinets serve different purposes. These could be existing cabinets on wheels that typically don't sit next to each other, see the cabinets at the back of the store:

Apple's headphone display cabinet isn't the same size as the tables:

Whenever someone important leaves a company, people are quick to jump all over things, including the Vision Pro. Jony Ive is listed in the Vision Pro patents:

Definitely seems like an IKEA buy. I would've gone with black to fit into any decor.

I am over here rolling on the floor laughing out loud over the newsworthiness of a cabinet.  And the apparently totally serious takes on the dimensional misalignment.

Thanks though, I needed that this morning.

The cart was most like to work at Best Buy stores with a little difference configuration. But at the price of these VR headsets, I am not sure who is really going to be able to afford it. Working at a Best Buy over Christmas you see retail sales slumping dramaticly. I worked for Facebook Meta a year ago, and I even had a hard time selling a $500 headset to customers.
When most of the jobs in the county only pay like $18 dollars an hours, these headsets will never take off at this price point, I even saw people not buying the Meta Quest 3 and buying the Meta Quest 2, even being 4 year old VR technology it sold better than the Quest 3 this christmas.

It’s not just the price.  It’s also how many people really care about it.  That remains to be seen.
