In 2022, Apple TV+ became the first streamer to win a Best Picture Oscar with its film "CODA." Now in 2024, it's up for a second chance at this most prestigious of all film awards.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" has been nominated for Best Picture, where it will compete with nine other movies, including "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," and "Anatomy of a Fall." Martin Scorsese has been nominated for Best Director.

The film has also been nominated in the Best Actress category for Lily Gladstone. She is now the first Native American actor to be nominated for an Academy Award.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" has further nominations for Robert De Niro as supporting actor, plus Best Costume Design, Production Design, Cinematography, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), and Film Editing.

At the same time, Apple TV+ movie "Napoleon" has been nominated in three categories -- Visual Effects, Costume Design, and Production Design.

The 96th Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. It will be televised on ABC.

Since I can’t stand DeNiro or DiCaprio, I won’t watch. DeNiro can only play DeNiro acting as someone else.

Given the current political climate there was no way this film wasn’t getting nominated.  That said, Hollywood has utterly forgotten how to make a good movie. They should just stop the self-congratulating and cancel the Oscars altogether.

The Oscars have always been film giving awards to itself.  They have always been political.   This film is based on a historical, actual event.  De Niro and Scorsese have been nominated 25 times between them, going back almost 50 years.  But you're right, I'm sure it's politicsl.
