New iPhone SE rumor aligns with previous leaks that suggest a new design

A leaker with a mixed track record has jumped on the iPhone SE 4 rumor train by repeating design leaks that have been shared before.

iPhone SE 4 could look like iPhone 14, but with one rear camera

The fourth-generation iPhone SE has previously been rumored to look similar to an iPhone 14 with a single camera and a Dynamic Island. It's development has been a bit chaotic, but it could arrive in 2025.

According to a leaker known as Majin Bu on X, the iPhone SE 4 could look "similar" to an iPhone 16 and have the dimensions of the iPhone XR. It would have a single large camera on the rear and have the Dynamic Island.

In a follow-up post, he said this information shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Based on what has been reported to me, the iPhone SE could have a design very similar to that of the current iPhone 16 still in development. The new iPhone SE will most likely have a single camera instead of the double one of the iPhone 16 models, otherwise it seems that the pic.twitter.com/Z1Gio4nBRu

Let's break down this post.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 16's external design will be similar to the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 has a slight curve at the base of its aluminum band but otherwise looks like an iPhone 14.

So, "a design very similar to that of the current iPhone 16" could just mean it's basically an iPhone 14, as the previous rumor suggested. Bu's mention of the iPhone XR is a bit of a red herring, as he's likely referring to the iPhone SE 4 being larger than the iPhone SE 3, but that would be evident if it has an iPhone 14/16 design.

The single camera and Dynamic Island rumors align with what was previously shared. That camera could be 48MP to keep it in line with the base iPhone 15 and rumored iPhone 16.

These specs may seem high for a budget model, but by 2025, it will have been three years since the iPhone 14. Also, Apple could change any of these rumored features before final production begins.

Majin Bu has been increasingly difficult to trust with leaks. He has had some accurate rumors, but those typically align with things that more accurate sources have rumored.

He's also been on a bit of a tear this week with dubious rumors of smaller batteries and camera bump design changes.

The leaker often shares images or leaks found on Weibo without attribution. Also, any original leaks seem not to pan out, like a redesigned iMessage app.

However, since Bu is aligning his latest rumor with what's been previously said, we're rating this as possible. More accurate sources like Ming-Chi Kuo haven't weighed in on iPhone SE 4 in a while since the original iteration aiming for 2024 release was postponed.

That’s my hope too. Making an SE that’s essentially a Mini with updated specs would be a good way to address the minority of users who prefer a smaller device without cannibalizing much of the existing market, while providing a solid option for people who just need something less expensive. And keeping competitive lower-cost options in the product line helps support the services business, which is high-margin and constitutes an important and growing portion of overall revenues.

Recently bought a new Mac mini. Soon I will buy a new iPad. I do almost all of my online stuff with these Apple devices. Oh, and I have a DSLR for photography. So a iPhone mini is what I'm looking for to replace my current iPhone SE. I have no need or desire for a large phone. I hope someone at Apple considers people like me, the multiple Apple device owning phone users.

Ooh, I would be tempted to replace my 13 Mini if there was a new Mini with a better camera and more battery capacity.
