Which iPhones and iPads will be supported with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18?

A credible leaker has detailed which iPhones and iPads will be supported in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

Around four months before Apple is due to announce iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 at WWDC 2024, there have already been rumors about the updates that range from the unlikely to the probable.On the likely side is that Apple will introduce much more AI to the updates, and there's been the rather more unlikely claim that iOS 18 will be revamped to look like visionOS.

For the first time, though, a leak has claimed to report exactly which iPhones and iPads will be able to get the update -- and so which models Apple is dropping support for. As first spotted by MacRumors, the leak came in a tweet that has since been deleted -- but previously deleted tweets by the same user have proven to be accurate.

According to this leaker, iOS 18 will support the same iPhones as iOS 17, meaning:


  • iPhone 11

  • iPhone 11 Pro

  • iPhone 11 Pro Max

  • iPhone 12

  • iPhone 12 Pro

  • iPhone 12 Pro Max

  • iPhone 12 mini

  • iPhone 13

  • iPhone 13 Pro

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max

  • iPhone 13 mini

  • iPhone 14

  • iPhone 14 Plus

  • iPhone 14 Pro

  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

  • iPhone 15

  • iPhone 15 Plus

  • iPhone 15 Pro

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)

  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)

  • iPhone XR

  • iPhone XS

  • iPhone XS Max



However, the new iPadOS 18 is said to not work on iPads with the A10X Fusion processor. Instead, it will solely be compatible with the following or later:


  • iPad Pro: 2018 and later

  • iPad Air: 2019 and later

  • iPad mini: 2019 and later

  • iPad: 2020 and later



If correct, this specifically means that the 2017 first-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro and second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will not be supported. It's unlikely that iPadOS 18 would drop support for the A10X Fusion but keep it for the older A10 Fusion processor.

That means that the sixth- and seventh-generation iPads are not expected to be supported.

Apple is due to announce both iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 at WWDC 2024.
