(PRODUCT)RED is getting our hopes up for a red iPhone 15

A photo from (PRODUCT)RED on social media is teasing us all about a vibrant red iPhone 15, but there is no detail beyond a cryptic reference to donuts.

A red smartphone with dual cameras placed on a box of colorful sprinkle-topped donuts.
(PRODUCT)RED has teased what might be a mid-cycle update to the iPhone 15

The (PRODUCT)RED posting on Twitter shows the red iPhone, being held over a selection of donuts. It's certainly not an iPhone 15 Pro, or any Pro model. It is definitely not an iPhone 15 Plus, but beyond what can be visually determined, there is no information.

It could, of course, be the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 14. That would be mean, though.

"Have an Apple before your donut," is the only line in the Twitter post.

While it is now around eight months since the release of the iPhone 15 range, it's possible that this is the first word of a mid-cycle replacement albeit an unusual tease from the source. For the past few years, Apple has released a differently-colored version of its latest iPhone around six months after the initial launch.

In every case, the model released is precisely the same in features and pricing as the original September launch. However, in every case, Apple offers a new color, and usually a particularly vibrant one, such as the yellow of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.

The trend began with the 2021 refresh of the iPhone 12, which offered purple. In 2022, both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro got a shade of green.

Having a (PRODUCT)RED refresh of its iPhone 15 would fit the pattern, especially since there was no red color at the original September 2023 launch of the range.

Apple has been working with the (RED) charity since 2006, when it launched a (PRODUCT)RED iPod nano. A portion of the sales from that device and every one of the very many subsequent (PRODUCT)RED Apple products has been donated to support the Global Fund's fight to end AIDS.

Rumor Score: Possible

National Donut Day is June 7th which falls just before WWDC?  I know that is trying to read into to the cryptic, but not that far fetched.

    The article is incorrect.

The first mid-cycle iPhone was the iPhone 7/7+ that also came in a product red. It was then continued for the iPhone 8/8+ (also in Product Red) and so on.

To everyone who is about to say that colors don’t matter and every phone ever made should be in black because “everybody” uses cases - well,  many people use clear cases, pouch cases or enjoy the feel of the phone without any case at all. Thankfully, Apple and others offer phones besides just black.

I would love to see a version of the red or the same green from the 13 range on the 15 pro models

Isn’t this just iPhone 14 in red? The back glass is not the new color-infused glass at all  :D

If they make it, I'll buy one. The wife's RED Xs is going wonky and we like the bright color so we can tell whose is whose at a glance.

I have the 13 in blue, and I love the treatement on the metal bits, that shiny aluminum-folding-cup colorization. But the back glass... ugh, boring. And the newer "blue" is so pale it might as well be white.

I would love to see, for once, just one BOLD, non-conservative color choice for Pro lineup. I think the closest Apple has ever come to that was the Sierra Blue and Alpine Green colors for the 13 Pro--and neither of those was all that bold, but at least they were different.

A red phone. Red.  No thanks. That’s just a color preference.

As for the reason it exists, it’s helpful.

I wonder if there is a way to track how much money has been sent to AIDS research from the profits and how much of that has actually converted to results.

    Apple Annual revenue $385 billion

TOTAL product red donations since 2006 from ALL participating companies - $750 Million for the Global Fund

Granted $750m is a lot of money.

But to me this whole product(red) business is just hollow virtue signalling and I wouldn’t want any part of it.

Charity donations are best in cash.

    Why would it be black?
it would be cleaner to make it natural anodised grey of the metal alloy they are using and no need to paint the back glass the case will block your view of the interior.

They should do a nude phone. For people to use with cases. 😎
