The most affordable iPad just got even cheaper as Apple cut the price of the 10th generation model by $100.

While Tuesday's iPad event focused largely on the new iPad Air and iPad Pro models, Apple included a quick footnote about its base model iPad -- it's now even more affordable.

The 10th-generation iPad, released at the tail end of 2022, features a 10.9-inch edge-to-edge display, Touch ID in the lock button, and the A14 Bionic. It also features a USB-C port and is compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil.

The rear camera is also improved over the ninth generation, which Apple has quietly retired.

Tuesday's price drop lowered the price from $449 to $349, making it a great device for kids or as a secondary device for those who may not need all the features promised by the iPad Air.

AppleInsider rated the 10th Generation iPad a 3 out of 5, praising the improved display and cameras, while noting that the device fits into a less-than-ideal spot in the iPad lineup -- that still hasn't changed much.

It's still full of awkward design choices.  It could have been made compatible with iPad air accessories instead of its own crap keyboard, only old pencil support, etc.

At $349 it replaces the entry level iPad, so there's that. It still pretty much sucks otherwise.

Priced where it should have been in the first place. At launch it was too expensive for the "I just want the basic iPad crowd' and not good enough to interest the middle of the range crowd.

$349 for 64GB is a joke. Now if it was $128GB then you’re talking about a value!

And I'm sure come back to school and the holidays these will hit the $279-299 price range on sale too, so definitely a compelling buy for someone looking for the basics in the iPad lineup. Like everything with their ladder system, if you want a bunch of extra storage, the better keyboard folio, pencil etc... Then it's a trivial jump in price (all things considered in total anyhow lol) to jump up to the Air or Pro line anyhow. I found myself teetering between the 15" MacBook Air and 14" MacBook Pro, but at the end of the day after speccing up the Air it just seemed rational to kick in "a little more (tm)" to upgrade. This model will probably be a big seller this holiday season (assuming retailers exhaust their supplies of the 9th gen model before then haha).

Wish they had also lowered the price for the iPad mini. Or introduced an 9 inch iPad Air.
Why does a smaller iPad mini now cost 43% more than the iPad?

Goodbye iPad 9. The last iPad with a built in analog audio output.

Given how little iPadOS makes use of the power of the Air and Pro chips, this price drop may actually have been the best thing to come out of yesterday's event. Sleeper hit?

Would like to have seen an upgrade to an A15 Bionic Chip at least.
