Pass those existing iPads (a 4 years old iPad Pro) down to a younger or older family member depending upon your circumstance that's what I did a win win........
I have a feeling that Apple services be up again this year and the analysts will miss some of little reasons why.
I wrote yesterday morning: "We are keeping our iPads until the point arrives when iOS cannot be upgraded." I lied. Yesterday afternoon we bought a new iPad Air (M2). 1. We had the money. 2. We bought a model with 256GB. We are also getting a $100 trade-in with Apple for an old iPad Pro (9.7)
We figured that we would have to by a new one within a year or so. So, we bought now.
Wow, you got a $100 for a iPP9.7?! That's a pretty good trade-in value.
One thing I notice between the iPP11 and iPP10.5 is that 8% more display space matters! Going from a 9.7 to 11 inch model is about a 20% more space. The 11" models are indeed heavier because of that 20% more display area. It's worth it.

After reading this, I checked for me. I will only receive $65 for my 9.7" Pro. Maybe because I only have 32GB storage.
I was using my iPad 2 to control my AV receiver up until a couple of years ago. It worked great. It still works, but I’ve upgraded my receiver and reconfigured my WiFi for WPA3 which is incompatible with really old iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches. For some reason the affected Apple devices won’t work with WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode.
Most of these ancient Apple devices can still do what they did when we bought them. If they’re still being used for what we bought them for … no problem until they actually die or pop their lid from a bloated battery. The iPad 2 just keeps on going and going. Unfortunately, there are a few old geezer Apple devices that were forever crippled by one too many OS upgrades that rendered them pretty much useless.
I'm still using an iPad 2 to control my iTunes library on a Mac Cube that I have connected to my stereo system. The Mac Cube is one of the coolest computer to use as a CD music jukebox. With the Remote app, an iPad, iPhone or Touch can be use to play any of the lossless music ripped into my Mac Cube iTunes library, from my listening position, without ever having to get up to change CD's. Plus if I need to play a CD that is not in my iTunes library, I can insert it into the Mac Cube vertical slot loading CD drive on top and select which track I want to listen to using my iPad. And no fan noise. Plus I can control the volume from the iPad.
The only draw backs with using the Mac cube are ...
No audio line out, unless you have the original Apple Pro "eyeball" speakers designed specially for the Mac Cube. Otherwise one need to use a USB/FW soundcard/DAC or the Griffen iMic.
Max internal HD is 128GB. So for large iTunes libraries, one has to install iTunes on an external drive. Not a problem if one don't mind having the Cube also connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The reason being that iTunes can not be set up to automatically start on boot up because it takes too long for the finder to see the external drive. So iTunes will not find the iTunes library in time and one has to point to where the library is located from the ..... "iTunes library can not be found"..... error message that pops up. Otherwise, with iTunes on the internal drive, iTunes can be set up to start on boot up and will show up on the iPad remote app, without ever needing a monitor, keyboard or mouse.
Still using my iPad mini ... my original iPad mini with cellular. Biggest complaint is web designers who build unnecessarily complicated pages (mostly to serve ads) which that version of Safari can't handle. Email, Facetime, YouTube all still OK.
My wife still has her original mini as well, though without the cellular, though since I showed her how to use the hotspot on her phone, that's not a huge issue. She keeps it in her purse, and uses it for much the same as you do, along with shopping.
